Anne Guerinoni is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in California who has been practicing since 2018. She has a Bachelors in Science from Dominican University of California, a Family Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Arizona, where she also earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Anne then furthered her education at the University of Cincinnati where she earned a psychiatric mental health degree and is now dual board certified as an FNP and PMHNP. Anne's treatment approach to managing mental health conditions is a team-based strategy with the patient.

No man is an Island, we are not meant to live in pain alone. Mental struggles hurt more than physical pain. Unfortunately it receives less attention, less empathy and compassion and more judgement than physical pain. I was raised to live in a community and build up the weak and hurting in the community because we are as strong as the strength of our weakest brethren. My goal as a psychiatric provider is to unconditionally support, build, strengthen and alleviate the judgement, and pain of mental struggles; this I achieve through empathy, listening, honest communication, building trust and strong partnership with my clients.

I am a board certified psychiatrist offering diagnostic evaluation and treatment in psychotherapy, medication-assisted psychotherapy, and medication management. After completing training at Duke University Medical Center, I engaged in further studies at San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and at California Institute for Integral Studies. I have facility in multiple modalities and am engaged in discovering which one is most effective for you. I am especially interested in the experiences of first and second generation Americans, intergenerational trauma, and integration of non-ordinary states of consciousness.

My expertise is in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy, an approach that aims to address emotional and psychologic distress through the exploration of unconscious forces that are outside of our awareness and influence how we perceive ourself and others, and how we relate to the world at large. This kind of psychological work is fostered by the development of a strong alliance between the patient and the therapist, which is why I meet with my patients at least once a week and often more frequently, including for full analysis.

I treat adults who are struggling with a range of emotional pain or anxieties. Problems I try to help people sort out include loss and grief, the impact of loss on relationships and the meaning of a life indelibly altered; illness, new or a new stage of it, and how it impacts one's sense of self, potential, and meaning; identity, related to race, ethnicity, sexuality or gender; the complexity of parenting or having difficult parents; and ordinary but intimidating transition from one stage of life to another, the changes to the body, meaning, and connections to others that come with these transitions.

I have experience working with a vast array of mental health issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, ADHD, OCD, and addiction. I am particularly interested in women's mental health as well as reproductive psychiatry. I utilize both psychopharmacologic forms of treatment as well as psychodynamic, DBT informed, CBT styles of therapy. I am originally from the Bay Area. I studied Genetics at UC Davis. I then went on to obtain my Masters Degree in Biophysics and Physiology at Georgetown University. I then returned to California where I obtained my medical degree from Touro University- CA.

I've been in practice as a psychiatrist for more than 20 years, and feel very fortunate that for me, my work is a calling. Skilled both in psychotherapy and medication management, I work highly collaboratively with patients and their other providers. As a psychotherapist my work draws on extensive training in AEDP, EMDR, and other modalities. As a prescriber of medication my knowledge base is quite deep and vigorously maintained. I completed my residency at Harvard Medical School in 1994, and was on faculty at UCSF until 1998. I have offices in Sonoma County and in San Francisco.
