My ideal client is someone who is ready to take an active role in their mental health journey, even if they feel unsure about where to start. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or challenges related to emotional regulation, self-esteem, or life transitions. Often, they want to feel more in control of their thoughts and emotions, improve their relationships, and function more effectively in daily life. Above all, they seek a safe space to be heard and understood, along with guidance and tools to help them build confidence, resilience, and a clearer sense of direction.

FAQ - Intervention Psychiatrists
What is a psychiatric intervention?
A psychiatric intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person's family or friends voice concerns about the person's behavior and its impact on their mental health and relationships. The goal is for the person to accept treatment, which in a psychiatric context may include therapy, medication, hospitalization, or crisis stabilization. In this meeting, the person's loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person's behavior has affected them and outline the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively encourage the person to accept a proposed treatment plan, which a psychiatrist may help design based on the person's specific mental health condition and needs.

What is the difference between a psychiatric intervention and therapy?
A psychiatric intervention is a single, structured event designed to encourage someone who is resistant to treatment to accept help. Therapy, in contrast, is an ongoing, voluntary process in which a person works with a mental health professional to address their symptoms. Therapy assumes the person is already willing to engage in their care, while an intervention is specifically intended for situations where a person is not seeking treatment on their own. That said, once a person agrees to accept treatment following an intervention, their treatment plan may include regular therapy sessions, medication management with a psychiatrist, or both.

How do I know if someone needs a psychiatric intervention?
A psychiatric intervention may be worth considering when a loved one is exhibiting signs of a serious mental health condition and is refusing to seek help on their own. These signs may include changes in behavior, withdrawal from friends and family, inability to function at work or school, substance abuse, or signs of psychosis. A psychiatrist can help you evaluate whether an intervention is appropriate, assess the severity of your loved one's condition, and help design a treatment plan that can be presented during the intervention.
