Hello! I am a board-certified psychiatrist in private practice in Chicago. I specialize in working with adults living with mood and anxiety disorders, which can significantly impact one’s quality of life. I tailor treatments to meet the individual needs and comfort level of each person. I pride myself on offering people new ways to cope during difficult times in their lives, as well as treating chronic conditions that can prevent an individual from functioning at their highest potential.

I work with adolescents and adults with a wide range mental health needs. I especially enjoy serving clients dealing with issues related to life transitions, academic and occupational difficulties, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. I deliver care that is empathetic, compassionate, and evidence based. I take time to listen and to understand each person's unique needs. I aim to provide and maintain a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive therapeutic environment.

I am a psychiatrist with many years of experience treating children, teenagers and adults. I am double-boarded, with certifications in child and adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry. I was drawn to medicine by a fascination with the interplay between the mind and the brain. But while the physical brain can be examined in many ways, the human mind is still best understood through a discussion of thoughts and feelings between patient and doctor.

After 30 years of healthcare experience, it's become very evident that there is no separation between wellness of the body and wellness of the mind. Unfortunately in most healthcare settings, only the wellness of the body is assessed. My philosophy is to assess the whole person. And in order to achieve this, I listen to my patients' concerns, but most importantly, I listen to their stories.I believe in providing patient centered care in a professional, yet compassionate nature, with emphasis of balance of mind, body, and spirit.

I have been in private practice since 1985. I am a general adult psychiatrist and see those age 13 and older. I am one of the "dinosaurs" who still do psychotherapy as well as medication. I see individuals, couples, and families. Although the majority of my patients see me for mood disorders and anxiety, I have had a special interest in eating disorders since training. My practice has solely been outpatient for many years, thus inpatient care would have to be transferred temporarily to another physician. (note: I am an out-of-network provider.)

My mission is to establish effective and lasting health practices, so that a client can optimize their quality of life. I continue to search with a client for the right combination of medication to optimize their quality of life.

Dr. Schumaker received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Sciences at Central Michigan University and graduated medical school at Central Michigan University School of Medicine. She is currently completing her psychiatric residency at Loyola University Medical Center, while providing telehealth services for patients at DuPage Psychiatric Care.

She is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she continues to be active in research and teaches psychopharmacology

Judith Sheldon is a board certified and licensed Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 28 years of experience providing exceptional, compassionate, and evidence-based care to her patients. She obtained her Associates of Science degree in nursing in 1992 from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 2001 and her Master of Science degree in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2013 from Olivet Nazarene University, and later received certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from University of St. Francis.

I enjoy the challenges of learning and treating the brain and its complexities. The mind-body integration and how it affects our day-to-day lives is fascinating to me. As a psychiatrist, I understand the importance of keeping up with advances in science and medicine in addition to being practical about what will work best for the patient. I like to combine cutting edge medicine with care and empathy to form a personalized treatment plan for each of my patients to achieve the best results with a safe and compassionate approach.
