Geoffry McEnany, PhD, PMHCNS, BC, Psychiatric Nurse in Boston
People seek help during periods of crisis, times of transition or change, and while navigating the challenges of maintaining health. I believe that the role of a skillful clinician is to provide ongoing assessment and effective treatment, taking into consideration a person's culture, gender and life circumstances. My approach to treatment is client-centered and I am respectful of the need for individualized treatment. I have specialized training in sleep and its relationship to psychiatric illnesses. I provide various treatment options which include medications and psychotherapy, particularly cognitive and behavioral approaches to psychiatric illnesses and associated sleep difficulties.
Symptoms manifest differently between men and women (menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause) and these differences are important to consider because they have a powerful impact on treatment effectiveness. My research focused on gender differences in psychiatric illnesses, providing important perspectives to the ways in which I approach assessment and treatment.
I believe that compassion and mindfulness are essential elements of healing. In times of illness, people often lose sight of the importance of compassion toward self and mindfulness to their needs during healing. My approach to treatment utilizes various forms of treatment in compassionate and mindful ways.
