Dr. Iman Parhami is a triple-board certified psychiatrist (Child Psychiatry, Adult Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine) who completed his child and adolescent psychiatry training at Johns Hopkins University. He strongly believes that diagnoses do not define individuals. Instead, diagnoses can help classify a set of symptoms and can help identify empirically supported treatments for that class of symptoms. He also believes that psychiatric treatments cannot just include psychopharmacology but must include a multi-disciplinary approach that is family-driven and culturally sensitive.

I am a Yale, UCLA and UCSF-trained addiction psychiatrist. I provide confidential, evidence-based treatment for mental health issues and addictions, including opioids, alcohol, cocaine, amphetamines, tobacco, cannabis, and behavioral addictions like internet, gaming, and gambling. These are NOT moral or character failings, but rather medical conditions that can affect anyone at any time, from any walk of life, with oftentimes serious personal, relational, and professional consequences. Though validated treatments exist, these are often underutilized due to medical providers’ discomfort, lack of education, and/or stigma.

I am empathetic and highly skilled at treating individuals with substance use disorders and behavioral addictions such as gambling, sex and eating disorders. I understand the prevalence of trauma, mood, and anxiety disorders in patients recovering from substance and/or behavioral addictions, thus I accept patients with dual or multiple diagnoses. Of specific interest to me is working with licensed professionals who have addiction treatment needs. I provide education, intervention, assessment, treatment support, monitoring, and/or relapse prevention to professionals whose licensing and/or ability to practice is at stake.

She has worked at San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital for 3 years and is currently also working at Palomar Pomerado Hospital.

We have a great track record when dealing with these issues. We are seeing major improvements in teens we treat. We currently have kids in our program who were suicidal just a few months ago, and now they are feeling much better and are heavily involved in college prep activities like honors classes, sports, band, etc.
