As a nurse practitioner, I have worked in primary care and geriatrics, as well as provided medical care on an inpatient psychiatric unit. It was in this setting that I discovered my interest in psychiatry and saw firsthand how optimal outcomes are achieved when a patient's medical and mental health needs are addressed collaboratively as a team.
