I have been in solo private practice since 1998 after retiring from Norwalk Hospital, where I had a range of experiences, specializing in the Consultation Service to medical patients, including the Whittingham Cancer Center. My focus now is on anxiety, panic disorder, depression, and psychosomatic issues. I also see senior patients. I enjoy the challenge of identifying the various factors which combine to create emotional crisis and disorder.
These factors include: 1 : Stress, loss, grief and change, 2. Family factors that impact development of trust and a sense of self, 3. Medical conditions, 4. Drug effects, including those for medical care, but also alcohol and substances of abuse and 5. Biological aspects of psychiatric illness which chemical imbalances and vulnerability to psychiatric disorders.
Treatment focus depends on the those identified critical issues for each patient and include a combination of psychotherapy and medication as necessary. Treatment also is impacted by the persons acceptance off their problems and the need for and possibility of change.
