I understand the struggle with feelings of isolation, low self-esteem, or overwhelming stress. These issues could manifest in difficulty concentrating at work, withdrawing from social interactions, or experiencing changes in sleep patterns and appetite. Additionally, they might have a history of feeling misunderstood by previous mental health providers, leading to doubts.Ultimately, my ideal client desires genuine connection and understanding, both from their Medication therapy and their support system. They want tools to help them manage their symptoms and to feel empowered in their own healing journey.

My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally exhausted and wants to feel better—not just function. They may be struggling with ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood changes, trauma, or a difficult life transition. They need a provider who listens, treats them as a whole person, and offers thoughtful guidance around therapy and medication without pressure. Their goal is stability, clarity, and renewed joy. They want to understand themselves, make informed decisions, and build a more balanced, fulfilling life.

As Medical Director, I enjoy the privilege of overseeing some of the most earnest, empathetic, and talented office and medical professionals in the field. Together, we represent an exceptionally skilled group that genuinely loves what we do and the patients we do it for. In my own recent past as Vice-Chair of Medicine at Tampa Community Hospital; and, as a lead resident at Department of Medicine at East Tennessee State University, I saw there was a fairly large gap between the standard of mental care needed by patients and that which was typically delivered in terms of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.

When you are suffering, you want help now, not three weeks from now! I keep appointments open for new patients, so you can be seen quickly, usually within a few days. Imagine waking up feeling refreshed and ready for the day. Imagine going to bed at night and falling asleep easily, not dreading the next day. Do you want to feel less depressed, and start enjoying life again? Are you suffering from anxiety and want relief? There is help, and you can feel better.

I enjoy working with high school aged adolescents all the way to adults. Like many psychiatrists, I have extensive experience in treating ADHD, depression, panic, and anxiety. I completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry which, not surprisingly, gives me greater insight into the adults I treat. In addition, I have had extensive experience working with people who have had trauma or who have been diagnosed with Substance Use Disorders or Bipolar Disorder. I enjoy working closely with a patient's therapist or their case manager and welcome referrals.

Family-focused practice philosophy: We believe that families do best when each member of your family gets the help they need.
4. Access to Care: We believe patients should be able to see their doctor within 1-2 weeks from the initial request. 5. Dedicated Time: Our practice model allows for more time with patients, so the physician can get to know you as an individual, as well as your medical, social, and psychiatric needs.

FAQ - Family Therapy Psychiatrists
Do psychiatrists provide family therapy?
Some psychiatrists do provide family therapy as part of their practice, but it is less common than individual treatment. While all psychiatrists are trained in psychotherapy during their training, most focus their practice on individual medication management and one-on-one therapy. Family therapy is typically the specialty of licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs), licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), and psychologists who have more dedicated training in family systems and group dynamics.

What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a family therapist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who can prescribe medication and provide medical evaluations for mental health conditions, while a family therapist focuses exclusively on therapeutic interventions without the ability to prescribe medication. Family therapists (often licensed as LMFTs or LCSWs) complete master's level training specifically in family systems theory, which examines how family members interact and influence each other's behavior and emotional well-being. Psychiatrists receive medical training that focuses more on the biological, rather than relational, aspects of mental illness.

Do I need an individual psychiatrist or a family psychiatrist?
What kind of mental health clinician is needed depends on the nature of the problem you are facing. Individual psychiatry is better when you have specific psychiatric symptoms (like panic attacks, mood swings, or psychotic symptoms) that require professional diagnosis and potentially medication. Family therapy provided by a psychiatrist, in contrast, may be a good fit when problems manifest in family relationships, such as parent-child conflicts, communication challenges, or adjusting to major family transitions like divorce or grief. In some cases, it may be appropriate to see both an individual and a family psychiatrist if there are individual and relationship-related concerns in a family simultaneously. For example, a teenager with depression might see a psychiatrist for medication and symptom monitoring while the entire family attends therapy together to improve communication and support the teen's recovery.
