I work with individuals who have anxiety, depression, mood disorders, insomnia, relationship problems, trauma history, medical illness, neurological illness, and/or individuals who are helping family members with these problems. My experience over the last 25 years in psychiatry has shown that medications are helpful but do not take care of all problems in life. I offer combined psychiatric treatment. I received my psychiatric residency training from Georgetown University Hospital and fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

I completed my undergraduate degree in nursing and psychology in South Africa. On completion of my degree, I travelled to the United States and worked as a travel nurse before obtaining my graduate degree in Adult Health from the University of Arizona. Following this, I specialized in inpatient hospital medicine. During this time, I became sensitive to the often neglected and overlooked mental health needs of the hospatient with complex physical illness.

There are times you may not feel “ok.” That could mean emotionally, psychologically, or even socially. You may feel like you can handle the dips in your emotions and even believe you do not need help. But just like needing a doctor for persistent abdominal pain, or for a rash that won’t go away or to help with an unstable blood pressure, you may need someone with experience to assist and to help alleviate or resolve the issue. The brain needs assistance also, especially when we are feeling overwhelmed.

So many people struggle with their mental health but are hesitant to reach out for help. My goal is to create an empathetic and compassionate environment in which my patients are able to open up and express their concerns and feelings.

She decided to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing at Walden University to obtain her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree in 2021. Esther has devoted her life to helping others both locally and abroad. She goes to Haiti every year on a mission trip with other healthcare providers.
