Deepa Abhilash, PMHNP, FNP My goal is to advocate for people who are struggling with serious mental illness. I am always looking forward to opportunities to serve, educate and encourage them to be responsible for their mental health. I aspire to help them to be able to function in the community so they can find their purpose in their life. I use an integrated approach in the treatment of mental illness which include medication management, motivational interviewing and various therapeutic approaches including cognitive & behavioral, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment.
I work with children over 12 years old, adolescents, adults and geriatric. My area of expertise includes substance use disorders, PTSD /trauma, depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, eating disorders, gender dysphoria, ADHD, disruptive mood dysregulation, insomnia, and personality disorders.
I prefer to use the assertive communication style where the expressions are clear, honest and respectful. Nonverbal communication including active listening is key in my sessions with my clients. Building a therapeutic relation is very important for building the trust as well as a successful treatment.
