My interests in working in psychiatry started very early. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a young age. Living with a chronic condition has taught me about the intimate connection between mind and body and the power of one to influence the other. I am a board certified Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist. In every stage of my training, I sought to deepen my understanding of this connection, and develop skills to help patients maintain a balance between the two. I specialize in treating children with chronic medical conditions; particularly type 1 diabetes, but also many other conditions.
My individualized multifaceted approach to treatment includes combinations of psychopharmacology, various psychotherapy techniques, extensive work with/support for parents, coordination with schools and other treating physicians, and lifestyle modifications (relaxation techniques, sleep, nutrition, exercise). I strongly believe that optimizing one's physical health requires optimum mental health and vice versa.
I enjoy working with children of all ages and young adults. Additionally, I am trained in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a model that can be used for children who have suffered medical trauma, have chronic illness, or who have experienced other forms of trauma (abuse, neglect, exposure to violence).
