Life is an amazing and unpredictable journey we all share. It can bring joy, success, love and optimism, and also present extreme challenges, loss, sadness, grief and despair. We can feel overwhelmed or "stuck" at any age for many reasons related to debilitating symptoms, poor relationships, life transitions, illness, trauma, and personal circumstances. This can lead to depression, anxiety, mood swings and uncertainty about how to feel better and move forward. Regardless of what challenges you are facing, no situation is hopeless and there is always a path forward to a better you and and a better life.

It's exhausting to feel like you're doing everything you can and still feel stuck. Whether you're managing anxiety, substance use, or the weight of multiple challenges at once, therapy can help you slow down, understand what's beneath the surface, and start building the life you want. Many of my patients are young adults and millennials who feel like they're carrying too much at once with nowhere safe to lay it down. I work with people navigating co-occurring disorders, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and the emotional weight that often comes with transitions, loss, or feeling misunderstood.

I believe every person is unique and therefore needs an individually-tailored therapy approach. My primary approach is psychodynamic, existential and action-oriented. Psychodynamically, I work with my patients to understand how patterns of thinking and feeling from early childhood affect their current lives. Existentially, I help my patients to find personal meaning in their life and cultivate their uniqueness. An empathic & action-oriented approach enables my patients to make real and lasting changes in their personal and professional lives. If desired by the patient, I can prescribe psychiatric medication when medically indicated.

My philosophy is an integrative approach in treating the whole person - including the biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual factors.
In a calm way, I emphasize education so you feel empowered and understand why medication may be necessary, what the medication is, and why you are taking it. While medications are important, they are often times not the long-term solution. I provide medication management services to those who are actively seeing a therapist regularly for psychotherapy.

I work with people navigating mood disorders like depression, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder, as well as those struggling with substance use, eating disorders, or personality disorders. Many of my patients begin therapy looking to understand their behaviors and build awareness around what drives them, especially when it comes to substance use and eating patterns. Through our work, we’ll explore those patterns with curiosity and care, and then move toward lasting change.

FAQ - Integrative Psychiatrists
What is integrative psychiatry?
Integrative psychiatry is an approach in which a psychiatrist draws from multiple treatment modalities, including different types of psychotherapy and medication management, to create a treatment plan tailored to an individual's specific needs. Rather than relying on a single therapeutic technique or defaulting straight to medication, an integrative psychiatrist considers a client's health holistically and collaborates with them to identify the most effective combination of treatments.

What can an integrative psychiatrist help with?
An integrative psychiatrist can address a wide range of mental health concerns by combining therapeutic approaches with medical expertise. Because psychiatrists can both prescribe medication and provide psychotherapy, they are uniquely positioned to adjust treatment plans based on how a client responds to different interventions. Integrative psychiatry can be part of a treatment plan for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, trauma, OCD, ADHD, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and a variety of other conditions. An integrated approach may be particularly useful when a mental health condition has not historically responded to one form of treatment alone.

How do I know if integrative psychiatry is right for me?
Integrative psychiatry may be a good fit if you have previously tried a single treatment approach, such as medication or therapy alone, and have not seen the results you were hoping for. It may also be worth exploring if your symptoms feel complex or interconnected, if you prefer a more collaborative approach to your care, or if you want a provider who will consider multiple factors contributing to your mental health rather than focusing solely on medication management. On the other hand, if your condition is well-managed with a straightforward treatment plan of therapy or medication alone, a regular psychiatrist may be sufficient. The best way to determine whether integrative psychiatry is the right approach is to schedule a consultation with a prospective psychiatrist to discuss your treatment history, current symptoms, and goals of care.
