When meeting with my clients my goal is to create a safe, compassionate, collaborative environment. I also want to develop a trusting and therapeutic relationship by completing a thorough psychiatric evaluation in a non-judgemental, caring place. I provide client centered care and treatment based on evidence based guidelines. I effectively manage client symptoms by initiating, adjusting, and monitoring medications. I think it's important to improve client's self-awareness and knowledge regarding mental health issues and psychiatric medications.

It is an innately human desire to be heard, seen, and understood. My philosophy in approaching care is to ensure that I honor this to the best of my ability. I aspire to bring forth a space that fosters safety, respect, and thoughtful collaboration. I believe that through building a strong alliance and considering the full context of what may be occurring beyond diagnostic labels, we can identify the right tools to fortify your foundation of wellness.

Are you considering psychiatric care, but worry about the short and long-term effects of medications? Our clients want to get well, but with the least medication possible. They want to be free from their problem! In addition to medication management, many really love discussing evidence-based natural solutions such as bright light therapy, triple chronotherapy, and vitamin infusions. For certain cases of depression, PTSD, OCD, and other concerns, some find great relief from low-dose oral ketamine or ketamine infusions.

Do you feel like everyone else has a "User's Manual to Being Human" and somehow it's been kept from you? The people I see are exhausted from years, sometimes decades, of feeling misunderstood, different, even alien in a way that is hard to explain. They may have searched for solutions in addictive behaviors, dealt with eating disorders, and/or become immersed in healing explorations that seemed so promising... only to find themselves in repetitive cycles of burnout that seem to keep coming back, no matter how hard they work on their own growth. They may be wondering what is missing, and tired of trying to solve themselves.

FAQ - Family Therapy Psychiatrists
Do psychiatrists provide family therapy?
Some psychiatrists do provide family therapy as part of their practice, but it is less common than individual treatment. While all psychiatrists are trained in psychotherapy during their training, most focus their practice on individual medication management and one-on-one therapy. Family therapy is typically the specialty of licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs), licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), and psychologists who have more dedicated training in family systems and group dynamics.

What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a family therapist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who can prescribe medication and provide medical evaluations for mental health conditions, while a family therapist focuses exclusively on therapeutic interventions without the ability to prescribe medication. Family therapists (often licensed as LMFTs or LCSWs) complete master's level training specifically in family systems theory, which examines how family members interact and influence each other's behavior and emotional well-being. Psychiatrists receive medical training that focuses more on the biological, rather than relational, aspects of mental illness.

Do I need an individual psychiatrist or a family psychiatrist?
What kind of mental health clinician is needed depends on the nature of the problem you are facing. Individual psychiatry is better when you have specific psychiatric symptoms (like panic attacks, mood swings, or psychotic symptoms) that require professional diagnosis and potentially medication. Family therapy provided by a psychiatrist, in contrast, may be a good fit when problems manifest in family relationships, such as parent-child conflicts, communication challenges, or adjusting to major family transitions like divorce or grief. In some cases, it may be appropriate to see both an individual and a family psychiatrist if there are individual and relationship-related concerns in a family simultaneously. For example, a teenager with depression might see a psychiatrist for medication and symptom monitoring while the entire family attends therapy together to improve communication and support the teen's recovery.
