My journey began at Denver College of Nursing, where I earned my BSN. Eager to dive into the world of psychiatry, I spent over 6 years as a Mental Health Registered Nurse. Those years were invaluable, giving me experience in diverse settings like outpatient, inpatient, detox, and crisis care. Mental health has always held a special place in my heart. Naturally, I pursued my Master's degree as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Regis College. My commitment to learning doesn't stop there – I'm constantly seeking new ways to expand my knowledge and better serve my patients.

Many of our patients are nervous about psychiatric treatment but want to overcome symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety, panic, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, autism, psychosis, and more.
Are you considering psychiatric care, but worry about the short and long-term effects of medications? Our clients want to get well, but with the least medication possible. They want to be free from their problem! In addition to medication management, many really love discussing evidence-based natural solutions such as bright light therapy, triple chronotherapy, and vitamin infusions. For certain cases of depression, PTSD, OCD, and other concerns, some find great relief from low-dose oral ketamine or ketamine infusions.

I specialize in treating youth who have Autism (ASD).
You can find joy! As an experienced psychiatric nurse practitioner, I have worked extensively with children, adolescents, and adults prescribing medication and providing therapy services. I provide traditional psychiatric services in conjunction with holistic and complementary approaches. I believe that medication may be necessary yet is only part of the healing process. I offer alternatives to medication and help people safely get off psychiatric meds. I frequently order genetic testing and lab tests to evaluate potential root causes to symptoms and medication response.

I have a lot of experience in the medication management of Autism Spectrum disorders and PTSD.
I went into Mental Health care because I wanted to help people figure out why they weren't happy. Everyone wants to be heard, seen and understood. In order to really help someone you have to understand who they are, where they have been and where they are trying to go.

My team and I offer the most effective treatments for Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and Autism.
Our ideal client is someone who is still struggling to get better. They often have tried many previous treatments including meds and therapy but have not been able to find something that works, keeps working or is free of side effects. Too often our patients have been through so many rounds of failure that they are discouraged or even in despair. We will fight for you and with you! We offer Interventional Psychiatry, based on careful assessment including, when needed, genetic testing and/or EEG brain wave analysis. We don't simply repeat what others do, instead we offer the best of the new. Avoiding meds where possible.

We have additional training and love working with issues of neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism Spectrum), anxiety, OCD, depression and PTSD.
It can be difficult to reach out for help, we are glad you are here! If you ask any of our past or current patients about their treatment experiences with us, you'd hear that; we are "down-to-earth", easy to talk to, and reliable. We take the extra time to LISTEN, get to know you and your lived experiences, YOUR goals, so WE can develop the most appropriate treatment plan. Jen and Kari are fun, and most importantly like to establish a sincere connection as we believe trust and understanding are most valuable in the therapeutic relationship. We look forward to working with YOU on your journey of healing and mental wellness!

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
