I take a thoughtful, collaborative approach to psychiatry that goes beyond quick medication management. While medication can help, real progress starts with understanding you- your patterns, stressors, and goals. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, and mood concerns, including those who feel high-functioning but overwhelmed. My approach integrates medication with practical, evidence-based strategies in focused, intentional sessions. My goal is to help you feel more stable, clear, and like yourself again.

I look forward to meeting you, hearing your story , and making sense of all that ails you. I feel that medications can provide relief for biological psychiatric conditions, but most of the long term relief comes from working through and reworking unhealthy behavioral patterns. Treating Psychiatric conditions is an art that requires balancing the medical treatments with looking at unconscious maladaptive behaviors. Once patterns are identified, the work we do will lead to change. I take the approach of meeting clients where they are at and working together in a relational model to reprocess and work through trauma.

My ideal client is someone navigating complex mental health challenges who often feels misunderstood or overlooked by the traditional medical system. Whether they are managing ADHD, depression, anxiety, or the weight of past trauma, they are looking for more than just a quick fix—they want to uncover the root cause of their struggles. They need a provider who views them as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms. Ultimately, they want to reclaim their autonomy and find a sustainable path toward wellness through a non-judgmental, inclusive approach that respects their unique lived experience.

I strive to help folks understand and accept themselves. As a board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist, I have extensive experience working with individuals who have difficulties with relationships, mood, anxiety, self-esteem, and attention. In treating youth, I see myself as a partner with parents to drive development forward. I provide psychotherapy, focusing on relationship and behavioral patterns. My approach is exploratory and relies on open-ended discussions. With children, play therapy usually guides explorations into their world. If and when necessary, I prescribe medications in addition to psychotherapy.

My practice includes child, adolescent, and adult patients. During your initial visit we will discuss your current concerns and assess the biological, psychological, developmental, and social factors that contribute to your concerns. We will then work collaboratively to establish a comprehensive plan to address each of these factors and discuss the role of medication and psychotherapy in your treatment. While I believe medications play a significant role in psychiatric treatment, I maintain a strong focus on psychotherapy, as this is a powerful tool for promoting lasting change and emotional well-being.

I provide psychoanalytic therapy.
I see my role as helping people navigate a relationship with the world and themselves that is more joyful and less constrained. Many of my patients have tried a variety of self help strategies or previous therapy with varying degrees of success and disappointment by the time they call me. You’re smart and capable, but your anxiety and mood keeps derailing you. Life feels like a nonstop performance, the same destructive patterns show up in your relationships, and you’re caught in loops of overthinking and irritability. You want to understand why you keep getting in your own way of living the life you want—and you’re also exhausted from trying to push through on your own.

I am a board certified psychiatrist who works with adults struggling with a variety of issues. I am an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, teaching and training medical students and psychiatry residents. In addition to general psychiatry, I have extensive experience treating women who are or who are considering becoming pregnant. Though medications can be helpful, they often do not provide the deep and lasting change many patients desire. For this reason, I sought advanced psychotherapy training after completing my psychiatric residency.

Sometimes, the challenges we face in the present—anxiety, stagnant relationships, or a sense of being 'stuck'—run deeper than surface-level symptoms. I provide a collaborative and reflective space where we can look beneath the surface to understand the underlying patterns of your life. By exploring the connection between your inner world and your outer experiences, we work together to foster lasting emotional freedom and a more authentic sense of self.

Psychoanalytic Psychiatrists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
