As I have grown and developed during the more than 40 years I have practiced psychiatry I feel the need to define myself and my interests more specifically. External forces are working to limit the Psychiatrists' role to medication prescriber. I certainly do some of this as the goal of symptom alleviation is an important one. What appeals most to me, however, is to work with individuals to achieve a more fundamental shift. Growth at a deeper level. Consequently, I have consolidated medication and talk therapy "under one roof." This provides efficiency and power difficult to achieve with split therapy.
For the most part, I continue to practice mainstream psychiatry. More recently, however, I have begun to introduce techniques that complement traditional Western medicine. This reflects a growing personal interest in and commitment to Yoga as an alternative path leading to change, healing and growth.
In 2006, I gave a Grand Rounds titled "Meditation, Joining Science and Tradition." This led to a meeting with Dr Brian Fallon, Director of the Lyme and Tic Borne Disease Research Center at Columbia University. From that meeting a study was initiated which resulted in the publication of a paper in 2022 titled, Kundalini Yoga for Post-Treatment Lyme Disease.
