Center for Psychiatric Trauma @ CPW, MD, Psychiatrist in Fort Smith
NO ONE is immune from trauma. Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that prohibits the ability to cope or understand emotions involved with a traumatic experience. Whether a tragic or sudden death in the family, physical, emotional or sexual abuse, childhood adversity or any traumatic experience, trauma can cause a person to be "stuck" and unable to move forward as they did before. Individuals who experience trauma are at an elevated risk for substance use; mental health problems; impairments in relational/social areas; physical disorders or conditions. Someone suffering from a traumatic experience oftentimes exhibits abnormal anxiety, depression or anger.
We offer many evidenced-based interventions for the treatment of trauma. Goals of symptom relief helps clients rebuild their lives, relationships, find a sense of safety and learn effective ways of coping. Our clinicians have certifications and advanced training in clinical trauma, youth trauma, family trauma and hold National Certifications in Trauma Focused-CBT.
We are a Trauma-Informed center that meets clients individualized needs in a safe, collaborative and compassionate manner. We utilize appropriate trauma related screenings and assessments to tailor a treatment plan that yields the best results for our clients. We focus on preventing retraumatization by helping client's feel safe, while building strength and resilience.

Center for Psychiatric Trauma @ CPW's Groups

ASH Program

The ASH Program was developed to help parents who are struggling with their youth's non-compliance, defiant or problematic behaviors at home or is worried about their youth's functioning at school, a mental illness or traumatic event. This program informs, encourages and helps parents take back control of their family. The goal is to educate parents to become problem solvers with the opportunity to be, perhaps for the first time in their family system, proactive rather than reactive. This program also teaches parents about ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) which has been proven to lead to chronic disease and mental health issues into adulthood.
