Greetings! Welcome to our multidisciplinary practice of counselors & psychiatric practitioners. Our group, TMS of Silicon Valley was founded by Dr. Saad Shakir with offices from San Jose to our northern most site in Corte Madera. We are unusual because we focus on TMS & nasal Esketamine, plus standard psychopharmacology (drug therapy). In addition, we are open to new ideas from Integrative/Functional Medicine. We see most ages & are an inclusive, welcoming practice for everyone. We can accept all insurances except Medi-Cal, or cash. Our staff can help with any questions. I enjoy psychiatric practice & invite you to join us for care.

Teletherapy Psychiatrists
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in California, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in California listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.

About Psychiatrists, meds and Psychiatric Nurses.

A Psychiatrist in California is a qualified medical doctor who specializes in treating mental health issues and diagnosable disorders.

California Psychiatrists differ from other mental health professionals in that they may prescribe medication as well as practice psychotherapy in treatment. Sometimes, Psychiatrists form part of a clinical team in which they will diagnose and prescribe, while psychologists or therapists provide the client's psychotherapy.

As part of a clinical assessment, Psychiatrists may conduct physical examinations, take blood tests, and order and interpret lab tests and brain image scans, such as CT scans, CAT Scans, and MRIs.

The field of psychiatry in California has many sub-specialties, including pediatric psychiatry. Those who work with the elderly are called geriatric psychiatrists.

Other related sub-specialties include cognition psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, psychosomatic, forensic, reproductive medicine specialties, psychopharmacology , psychiatric genetics, neuroimaging, and clinical neurophysiology.

Psychiatric nurse practitioners in California, or mental health nurse practitioners, generally have an MS degree in nursing (MSN) and a number of years of training to become certified. Psychiatric nurse practitioners are able to assess and diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. California Psychiatric nurse practitioners also have training that enables them to include psychotherapy with treatment.
