My name is Jerry Gelbart. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, went to college in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan and received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I attended medical school at Ohio State University, and trained in Psychiatry at UCLA. I’ve been in private practice for 30+ years. I have helped many people suffering from psychological symptoms with medication and firmly advocate biologic methods of treatment. I’ve had an even greater passion, however, for teaching people how to understand their emotions, and how to put that information to use to reduce problematic symptoms and find greater fulfillment in life.

My goal when I meet a new patient is to understand what they are going through and what has affected their life. If I work with you or your family member I will try and understand your situation and history and will get a sense of how to shape modalities of therapy to help you and/or your family member to overcome the problems. I see a range of ages from children and adolescents to adults. Although every individual problem is unique, I have expertise in Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder ( ADHD ) in children and adults, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Feb 2, 2021 "I recommend him to treat your psychiatric problems such as ADHD , Anxiety and Depression.
My clients are very kind, offering me encouragement to do well. That's also true when they point out problems I can work on. When prospective clients see, I think it informs and invites them to decide: call or no. Susan, CA, July 24, 2022 wrote "I have not seen him In awhile but Dr Kron and his assistant Nan were incredibly kind, warm and Dr Kron has a great personality and sense of humor in addition to being brilliant. I had some unexpected health issues but am working on these. I certainly wish his rates had not increased so dramatically but supply/demand. Remarkable human being who helped me with severe anxiety at the time."

Combining Science with Kindness is what drew me to psychiatry and is the cornerstone of my practice. My interest in the mind led to a degree in Cognitive Science at Brown University. After graduating from Brown Medical School, I completed my psychiatry training and research fellowship at UCSF. I have been working with wounded veterans since 1998. My private practice offers me the opportunity to share my expertise with a broader array of patients. I am proficient at treating Anxiety/Panic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, ADHD , Addictive Disorders (including Buprenorphine), and Traumatic Stress.

ADHD Psychiatrists
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.

About Psychiatrists, meds and Psychiatric Nurses.

A Psychiatrist in Orinda is a qualified medical doctor who specializes in treating mental health issues and diagnosable disorders.

Orinda Psychiatrists differ from other mental health professionals in that they may prescribe medication as well as practice psychotherapy in treatment. Sometimes, Psychiatrists form part of a clinical team in which they will diagnose and prescribe, while psychologists or therapists provide the client's psychotherapy.

As part of a clinical assessment, Psychiatrists may conduct physical examinations, take blood tests, and order and interpret lab tests and brain image scans, such as CT scans, CAT Scans, and MRIs.

The field of psychiatry in Orinda has many sub-specialties, including pediatric psychiatry. Those who work with the elderly are called geriatric psychiatrists.

Other related sub-specialties include cognition psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, psychosomatic, forensic, reproductive medicine specialties, psychopharmacology , psychiatric genetics, neuroimaging, and clinical neurophysiology.

Psychiatric nurse practitioners in Orinda, or mental health nurse practitioners, generally have an MS degree in nursing (MSN) and a number of years of training to become certified. Psychiatric nurse practitioners are able to assess and diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. Orinda Psychiatric nurse practitioners also have training that enables them to include psychotherapy with treatment.
