"Listen….Are you breathing just a little and calling it a life?” -Mary Oliver To be human is to be incredibly vulnerable. At the same time, to get through our day-to-day life, often we need to push away those parts of us that feel vulnerable. Join me in a healing exploration of these tender parts. The ones that may hold great fear. Those that hold grief. Those that worry if they are good enough. These are the parts that visit in the middle of the night. Consider bringing these parts of yourself to a space where we can bring them understanding and deep healing. That space is what I offer if the connection feels right.

Trained in Gestalt, ACT, DBT, mindfulness, Functional Medicine and other modalities.
My approach is based on integrative psychiatry, which uses medications, therapy and complementary medicine to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. I address the combined impact of sleep, lifestyle, relationships, nutrition and chronic medical conditions on well-being, and use cutting edge tools like genetic testing to guide personalized treatment with medication and supplements. I consider the patient’s cultural background in my assessments and I can provide treatment in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian. My goal is to help my patients create lasting changes and build vitality, resilience and purpose in life.

These most common include psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, MBT, and ACT.
My treatment philosophy is to get to know each person as a whole. I want to get to know you, your story, and what matters to you. If needed, I will help you tell your story. I approach the therapeutic relationship as a partnership built on trust and communication with you in the driver’s seat. The better you can help me understand your world, the better I can pull from the resources available to me to share with you. You will understand what is going on with you or your child and be active participants in this journey. I enjoy working with parents/caregivers and families and believe it is essential to a child’s treatment & recovery.

I specialize in ADHD in women and complex trauma. I'm a board-certified adult psychiatrist and have been in practice for 17 years. During this time, I have come to recognize that ADHD and complex trauma often go hand-in-hand. Complete care for Adult ADHD often means addressing the complexities and co-occuring conditions that come with having a condition that can impact every aspect of life. If you have ADHD, my approach is strengths-based and we work together to find solutions that line up with who you are and how you work.

I earned a Ph.D. in cognitive neuropsychology from UC Berkeley before attending medical school at UC San Francisco and later specializing in psychiatry at New York University. As a result, I have a thorough understanding of the neural pathways involved in emotions and cognition, how they develop, how they are regulated, and the relevant neurotransmitters. I have applied my training to develop a specific expertise in identifying and treating ADHD in adults. While neural pathways affect behavior, your mind doesn't exist in a vacuum. Your mind developed and operates under distinct circumstances.

I offer combined medication management and psychotherapy. The Whole Circle approach is informed by a reverence for the power of narrative and the transpersonal. My holistic training in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy allows me to create a safe space that includes a spiritually-intentional set and setting for each journey I facilitate. My background in narrative therapy informs my view of structures of oppression and modern power and helps empower those who consult me to take primary authorship in writing the story of their lives. Check out my website: www.wholecircle.nyc

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Psychiatrists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
