Clients who seek treatment with medications have significant struggles in maintaining a sense of groundedness and balance in terms of their moods, thoughts and behaviors. The goal of this type of treatment is to restore a baseline stability to then allow the individual to make the life changes necessary to become the person they want to be as opposed to the person they think they are in the moment. Clients for whom medications are not indicated or desired, the goals of talk therapy are to lead to transformation, transcendence and self-actualization while ensuring constant movement forward in the treatment.
The first and most critical step in the process is to define the person you want to be. This is the person you always knew you were but struggled to become. At times individuals who have struggled for too long find it difficult to remember who they truly are. But once we re-find that person, there is a roadmap that will guide the way forward.
Each therapy is unique, just as each individual is unique. The choice of treatment is based not only the nature of the problem but on the client's desires and preferences. The therapeutic process is a series of cycles consisting of initial discomfort, to compassionate understanding, to challenging perspectives, and finally to acceptance and growth.
