I am Maua Swai, a dedicated Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), I bring forth a blend of clinical expertise, deep empathy, and an unwavering commitment to guide you towards a brighter and more balanced mental health journey. I am an accomplished PMHNP with a profound passion for empowering individuals to regain control over their mental health. With an extensive background in nursing and advanced training in psychiatry, I have honed a comprehensive skill set to address an array of mental health conditions through medication management and supportive therapy - CBT.

I am a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric and Mental Health with 18 years experience providing individuals with care and treatment of acute and chronic mental health issues through Psychopharmacology and brief, supportive therapy. I have worked in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, outpatient settings, community mental health clinics , telemedicine and as a psychiatric consultant in long term care. This makes me uniquely qualified to partner with individual adults ages 18 to 85 with medical issues impacting their mental health and well-being.

Dr. Nwankwo is a doctoral prepared and licensed dual board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatry-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Post Masters Certification in Psychiatric Mental Healthcare from Brandman University, Irvine California, and Master of Science as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Walden University, Minnesota. Dr. Nwankwo provides her clients with empathetic, evidence-based, patient-centered care with the goal of restoring health and balance. She assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental health disorders using pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions.

She holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Oregon Health & Science University and has been working in the psychiatric field since 2015. She has worked at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the largest LGBT Center in the country, and would love the opportunity to broaden the reach of LGBTQ+ affirming mental health care through telepsychiatry. She is trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), an evidence-based trauma therapy. She takes a trauma-informed perspective on mental health care.

As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, diagnose, and prescribe medication. I emphasize shared and informed decision-making when tackling symptom management. My goal is to help you leverage a combination of lifestyle, environmental and pharmacological modifications to optimize functioning and well-being. Prior to Spruce, I spent the last seven years at Seattle Children's Hospital, Harborview Medical Center and teaching for the University of Washington's School of Nursing.
