I specialize in the evaluation and treatment of emotional and self-esteem difficulties, via understanding the inter-relationship between the mind and the brain at various levels. Most of my patients come for consultation because of problems with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, problems in succeeding (or enjoying success), or difficulties making certain life transitions. Many have been experiencing marital/couple distress. I currently teach at UCSD Medical School and the San Diego Psychoanalytic Institute.
I have practiced in San Diego since 1976. My approach encourages self-understanding and being present. Treatment targets may involve behavior modification, support during a crisis, and guiding you to obtain self-knowledge and insight leading to positive change.
Psychotherapy can be brief, focused upon a particular symptom or crisis, or it can be an exploration focusing upon more sweeping modification of personality or increase in self-awareness. I appreciate the profound complexity of the mind/brain. Psychotherapy may be sensitively combined with appropriate medication, during part or all of treatment.
