These are four basic requirements for feeling better: first, you want to understand why you don't feel well; second, you want to do what is necessary to feel better (liking what you have to do isn't necessarily required); third, you are open to the possibility that laughing at the absurdities of life is a really good idea, and four, you don't pay a fortune to expensive consultants in order to disregard their advice. I like to explain why I make any recommendations, and I like to whistle while I work (metaphorically speaking).

I have a passion for philosophy and science. Our mind-body is an amazing, self-programming bio-computer, and distressing symptoms are noise in the stream of awareness; medications are noise signal modulators; behavioral change techniques reprogram the noise-generating network nodes.

I've spent 40,000-plus hours in face-to-face contact with folks in Connecticut, young, older, of all social classes, colors and creeds. I've seen what works, what works less well, and what hardly ever does. To be willing to laugh at our pretensions generally works well.
