My name is Dr. Annette Smith. I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner graduate from Columbia University. I treat children ages 6+ and adults from vulnerable populations (racial and ethnic minorities, sexual and gender identity minorities, recently incarcerated, and homeless individuals). I care for people with mental illnesses such as ADHD, DMDD, eating disorders, trauma, depression, bipolar, anxiety, personality disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, psychosis, and addiction.
I use different modalities with emphasis on trauma-informed care, mindfulness, humanistic therapy, interpersonal relations, strength-based and solution-focused approaches in most of my sessions. Every individual is unique, so we can explore what modalities work for you. I practice patient-centered care and utilize cultural humility in my care of clients.
I hope the outcome is feeling you were cared for holistically each session. I believe medication is helpful but psychological healing and socioeconomic support are important as well. I hope to connect you to resources for social support (housing, food, disability, etc.) as needed. My goal is to provide healing and break generational traumas in mental health.
