As most patients come for their initial visit in some distress, the first two goals are building a mutual understanding of the the distress and focus on symptom relief. I practice as a psychotherapist and I prescribe medication. Some people come for medication and therapy wanting to gain insight into their feelings, change patterns in relationships, confront addiction. Often people come to me for evalution or to continue medications they were previously stable on. Whatever the reason you are visiting Psychology Today, my advice is to focus on building a trusting relationship with whomever you work with.
I evaluate, diagnose, and use medication and therapies to address the needs of adults with anxiety spectrum disorders from PTSD to OCD, as well as ADHD and addiction. After 20 years as a therapist my work is analytically trained Rogerian work with CPT for acute PTSD. I also engage patients about what is meaningful in their lives and help them increase it.
I enjoy meeting new patients and feel nothing less than honored to listen to the struggles that bring them to talk to me. My experience of meeting a new patient is marked by learning about them and what kind of exploration of mind, mood or life they might be considering.
