Dr. Abigail Wang earned her MD from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Virginia. She specializes in trauma-informed care and integrates psychodynamic principles into medication management. She was UVA Psychiatry’s first physician trained in Prolonged Exposure therapy (PE) for PTSD. Dr. Wang also has experience in DBT, CBASP, group therapy, medication-assisted treatment for substance use, and TMS for treatment-resistant depression.
Dr. Wang is passionate about cross-cultural psychiatry and how sociocultural contexts shape mental health. Through UVA’s Global Health Leadership Track, she cared for refugees, asylees, and Indigenous patients, deepening her commitment to those with complex cultural narratives and histories of intergenerational trauma.
Her academic work includes neuroscience research on OCD and studies on LGBTQ+ youth mental health. Dr. Wang’s interest in psychiatry began as an undergrad in Pittsburgh, and she’s excited to return to her favorite city to join Nexus and provide compassionate, evidence-based care to the local community.
