The two parts of trauma are the threat of harm and the inability to stop it or get away. Trauma impacts us in many ways, ultimately it changes our beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. This shift effects our relationships, physical, mental, and emotional health. Experiential therapy uses expressive methods/activities to reenact or recreate specific situations from past and present situations (art, music, psychodrama, RRT). Family dynamics are the patterns and interactions we have with different members of our family unit. Each system has a unique set of dynamics that impact development, thoughts, behaviors, and interactions/connections with others.

Process groups are a form of group therapy that is an essential component of addiction treatment. These groups teach the skills needed to navigate daily life stressors, which help to reduce and eliminate cravings. The overall goal of these groups is to create a sense of belonging and relatability through sharing common experiences without judgment or criticism. Relapse prevention focuses on identifying high-risk situations for relapse and developing appropriate solutions. Life skills groups offers clients the chance to once again learn basic skills (abandoned while actively addicted).

CBT, ACT, DBT
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), is a goal-oriented form of psychotherapy. CBT helps clients become aware of negative self-talk and other self-destructive behaviors. Cognitive behavioral therapy is effective for: sleeping difficulties, relationship problems, drug/alcohol use, depression and anxiety. ACT develops psychological flexibility and is a form of behavioral therapy that combines mindfulness skills with the practice of self-acceptance. ACT stands for: accept the effects of life's hardships, choose directional values, and take action. Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy. DBT focuses on: understanding the emotion, reducing emotional vulnerability, and decreasing emotional suffering.
