The group is to explore the new dating world with women between 20-40 years old. We look at patterns and reasons that maybe holding us back in relationships, such as attachment style, somatic feelings, and implicit patterning/procedural learning. The group provides support and a safe place to discover the interpersonal skills and tools to find and develop a fulfilling relationship. A new co-ed group will be forming soon.

The decision to utilize a gestational carrier often brings emotional complexities that extend beyond the medical and legal process. Ebb & Flow Psychological Associates created this psychologist-led support group for intended mothers to explore the psychological transitions of the surrogacy journey in a supportive, process-oriented environment. Rather than a structured psychoeducational class, this group is guided by participants’ real-time experiences, concerns, and reflections. Members are encouraged to openly discuss the challenges, emotions, and evolving dynamics of the journey while benefiting from professional guidance and the shared insight, support, and collective wisdom of others navigating a similar path.

You love your husband but sex has started to feel like a chore. You feel guilty, he feels rejected, but nothing's helped (toys, supplements, hormone testing, pelvic floor PT, even therapy). This group is for women who're starting to worry something's wrong with them but don't want to accept that this is 'just how things are.' It's real talk about how sex drive actually works, what gets in the way, and what you need to have better sex again. Facilitated by Erinn Hoel, LCSW and intimacy coach who spent 15 years in this exact place.

Self-described as a “Recovery 2.0” group, the body liberation process group has met twice a month for the last six years (and counting). The group is intended for folks who have moved to a solid place in their eating disorder recovery, yet they are still struggling with things such as using their voice, setting boundaries, having lasting positive relationships, and repeating unhelpful interpersonal patterns. In this group, members get the benefit of receiving support from a therapist and a small group of people who are committed to recovery.

Your milestones, your choices. They are important and deserve to be recognized. We understand how hard it can be when societal pressures around having children feel overwhelming. The expectations, the comments, the constant reminder that you're “supposed” to follow a certain path—it can take a toll on your mental health. And not having a community to talk about it? That’s isolating. There are so many others going through the same thing--they want to connect with you, share experiences, + laugh about the things no one else gets. You deserve a space to speak openly and be heard.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
