For me it’s meant transitioning from city life in Brooklyn & NYC to quieter moves upstate in the Hudson Valley; it’s meant growing from a young adult into family life & active mother of 3; and changing gears to be able to support and treat youngsters and adults in a way that best serves each of them. I've spent most of my career servicing children, teens and their families in emotional, behavioral, academic & psychiatric capacities. I've supported kids and teens through mental illness, trauma, developmental delays, learning issues,

My name is Abbie Zuidema and I am a Pre-Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT-LP) with SYNC Psychological Services, PLLC. Some of the most important things that happen in our lives can't be put into words. Changes in emotions, thoughts, or daily life—feeling sad, anxious, tired, difficulty focusing, appetite or sleep changes, loneliness, mood swings, and/or hopelessness—can become overwhelming over time. Envision a safe space where emotions can surface, inviting exploration. Creative Arts therapy involves the mind, body, and spirit in different ways than just talking.

Adults, Teens, and Children in need of counseling benefit from Creative Arts Therapy, as do families, and couples. I offer the optional use of Creative Arts to help clients gain a much needed perspective to assist them in their healing. Words, alone, cannot fully express your feelings. The creative arts can provide a potent "language" for expression and requires no previous art making experience. Paint, college, clay, mask-making, and creative writing help clients express, understand, and transform their feelings into allies for healing. Art Therapy has been designated as a mind-body approach by the National Institute of Health.

Accepting Clients! My goal is to help you get as many aspects of your life as possible into good standing. We’ll figure out your stuck points & hurts, where they are coloring your world, & how we can change your internal narrative. I like to incorporate yogic embodiment practices, to provide a deep, transformational healing experience; breath work, visualization, mindfulness, meditation, body movement, mantras, & affirmations. By holding space for your emotions, & allowing them to be experienced in an embodied way, the ‘energy in motion’, is released, creating ease & an awareness of new thoughts, feelings & pathways forward.

I specialize in working with youth and families, and use traditional talk therapy, as well as Synergetic Play Therapy, a body-based modality, to facilitate growth and healing. I also offer the use of art and sandtray to help clients process feelings and experiences that are sometimes beyond words. In my work with teens and pre-teens, I seek to validate, support, and draw upon the innate wisdom they hold within to build resources, confidence, and movement toward goals. I hold my clients in the highest regard, and am constantly reminded in my work that young people can be our greatest teachers about ourselves and the world.

“It didn’t start with you, but it ends with you.” This 4 hour group experience will begin with a grounding practice, opening the space by asking our healed and loving ancestors to support the group journey, and we will then set intentions for what we want to release that did not begin with us: ancestral wounds, burdens, or a sense of attachment to patterns that are no longer needed. Sound Bath accompaniment during KAP portion of the group. June 1st.
