I treat a spectrum of psychiatric and psychological concerns, focusing on issues such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, as well as challenges such as relationship difficulties, life transitions, personal fulfillment, and identity. I incorporate a psychotherapy that has potential to be deep, meaningful, and rewarding. For those who may benefit from psychiatric medication, I use a collaborative approach when deciding on medications and their utility.

Primary group objective is to decrease behaviors that interfere with quality of life. We work toward decreasing and ultimately, eradicating impulsive, suicidal, and self-injurious behaviors while enhancing one's ability to cope more effectively with difficult feelings. Disordered eating behaviors are primary targets of the work. Restriction, binging, purging, and/or abuse of exercise are closely tracked and skills for changing these behaviors are reinforced so that participants may effectively work toward balanced, healthful eating and self care. The group will cover all four of the DBT modules: core mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

When you look around it seems like everyone else has it so good. Fulfilling relationships, great jobs, family, money…. You want these things, too. You beat yourself up feeling like “if only I was thinner, more successful, more talented….” The bigger the gap between what you believe you have and what you think others have, the worse you feel.

I see patients across the lifespan and particularly enjoy working with people who are looking to work collaboratively to gain a deeper understanding of themselves. Through therapy we can address problematic behaviors, troubling emotions, maladaptive thought patterns and relationship issues. Having worked in college counseling centers for the past 15 years, I have helped many people through important transitions in their lives and welcome the opportunity to meet with you.

I practice creating a therapeutic space where we can both embrace the present moment and embark on a journey of self-discovery. I believe that therapy is a long-term process that unfolds over time, leading to ever-expanding self-awareness and fulfillment. We are building this space together, and I use humanistic, somatic, and psychodynamic approaches to help guide that process (Tweed jacket sold separately).

People often reach out with a range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, addiction, eating disorders, career concerns, and the challenges of navigating life transitions. Whatever the specific issue, clients often share a common goal: to gain a deeper understanding of the issues they’re struggling with, to challenge and replace patterns of thought and behavior that are not serving them, and to learn helpful coping skills to manage stressors in healthy and productive ways. Ultimately, my clients frequently aspire to cultivate a life of fulfillment, authenticity, and peace.

Members are encouraged to bring in cultural content that they perform, play, read aloud or in some way enact and comment on, such as a song, dance, poem, drawing, play, film or book excerpt that the client links to a question about themselves. I imagine you may wonder what your life means. You might want to feel vitally connected to nature, the spiritual world and people in your life. Or you feel sad or numb and want to understand why, to feel more energy. Or you just want to sit still and not worry about the future. In one way or another, you are looking to feel safe and fulfilled, to relieve distress and feel less alone. Perhaps you feel loneliness and don't know what to do about it or have an addiction you sometimes hide and sometimes admit to yourself. You may have a child or adolescent you're concerned about, with conflicts you hope can heal.
