My work is influenced by my training in relational psychoanalysis, and I specialize in working with perinatal mood disorders, adults, couples, and adolescents.
Through both my psychoanalytic training and my training as a creative arts therapist, I treat each person as an individual and we come up with a treatment plan together. My patients are often dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, identity formation, trauma, and attachment issues. My view of therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to help you increase your self-esteem, have a greater understanding of yourself, and be able to have healthy and long-lasting friendships and romantic relationships.
Moms In Babeland (newborn-12+months) holds a special place in my heart, personally and professionally. It's culture shock having a baby! Previous members said the Group is a "Lifeline for new parents. . . .The only place you can really talk. . . . The best thing I did since having a baby." With sensitivity and humor, we will explore: Balance; Role changes; Relationships and family dynamics; Stay-at home mom/working parent/options; Sleep; Developmental issues; Sandwich generation and more. I am a NYS licensed psychotherapist/mom juggling many roles and demands and surviving it all! AM/PM groups forming. Manhattan and Forest Hills. FREE CONSULTATION.

I have a specialty in trauma, sexual addiction, sexuality and relationship issues including pre-marital counseling, infertility, pregnancy and adjustment to parenthood.
People often ask me "How do you listen to people's problems all day?" I am inspired by the people I meet who often have difficult backgrounds and lives, yet are willing to work hard to grow and be happy, healthy, human beings. I am touched by their commitment and dedication to work on themselves instead of being angry, miserable people. What more important investment is there than investing time and energy in oneself?
At Lavender, we believe in creating a space where feelings are felt, respected and cared for. The four weekly sessions will cover the highs and lows of motherhood and normalize the postpartum experience in a supportive space, guided by a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Babies are welcome to attend. Session cost below will cover all four weekly sessions.

If mom is suffering and you are trying to support her through it - this is a great opportunity to meet other partners having a similar experience while gaining practical support and tips from an expert clinician. The best thing for partners to do to get through this challenging time is to get the support THEY need. 25$ per class.

Over the past 25 years, I have partnered as therapist, teacher, graduate professor, and learner with adults, children and their families, and couples. Most are within a transition, filled with angst, anticipation, conflicting emotions and thoughts. Many are navigating a loss relating to illness, relationship, academics, and often the ambiguous loss of expectations. There is suffering, sadness, anxiety, and often lack of trust in one's self and abilities. You have the resources, yet you may need a tool to assist accessing and building upon your strengths with a renewed sense of hope and confidence in varied future possibilities.

Each person's broad web of relationships and external circumstances impacts their view of the world and ability to cope within it. With over 20 years experience as a clinical psychotherapist, I consider these and other factors in my work with adults and couples. My approach is empathic, interactive and collaborative. While i see the importance in identifying root causes for behavior, i believe it is equally important to focus on coping mechanisms in the present and developing effective solutions for managing life's difficulties.

Our past does not have to dictate our future, the work we do today has the power to affect lives for generations to come! How we view ourselves, others, and how the world functions is filtered through early experiences/relationships. We learn about communication, conflict, self-love, vulnerability, etc from families of origin and key relationships. I partner with clients to understand how early years, past relationships, and current situations contribute to where they are today. We assess what is hindering your progress and together create ways to tackle these concerns. We unlearn and replace unhealthy approaches with healthy ones.

People often reach out with a range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, addiction, eating disorders, career concerns, and the challenges of navigating life transitions. Whatever the specific issue, clients often share a common goal: to gain a deeper understanding of the issues they’re struggling with, to challenge and replace patterns of thought and behavior that are not serving them, and to learn helpful coping skills to manage stressors in healthy and productive ways. Ultimately, my clients frequently aspire to cultivate a life of fulfillment, authenticity, and peace.

My practice serves children, adolescents, adults and couples who need professional support to say how they feel, discover what they want and find needed answers. In a safe space, each individual is encouraged to encounter and express every feeling they are experiencing.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Support Groups
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
