I provide social skills training to children and teenagers who have difficulty making and maintaining friendships - some of whom have autistic spectrum disorders. I see children and teenagers on an individual basis to work on behavioral issues and other concerns and will frequently involve the whole family in order to improve communication and other dynamics. I also provide neurofeedback therapy to children and adults with ADHD and other disorders.
This group is for young adults between the ages of 18-26, who want to learn DBT skills to improve their capacity to regulate their emotions, thinking, interpersonal behaviors, and support a more cohesive sense-of-self. Through a highly structured set of lessons, group members are taught concepts and skills in the five DBT modules which address emotional regulation deficits . Role playing and brief experiential exercises assist members in applying skills they have learned in group. Brief homework assignments will allow for experimentation and practice of their newly acquired skill set. skill set.
My therapeutic approach emphasizes creating collaborative relationships with all my clients while teaching flexible problem-solving skills in life. Dr. Pete approaches clinical work from a cognitive orientation, including a variety of evidence-based treatments while creating an open dialogue about treatment techniques, goals and culture. The main focus is on improving wellbeing and reducing stress including integration of Eastern traditions such as Buddhism and Yoga. This has lead to the authorship of several books and research articles on the utilization of mindfulness for effective leadership, building effective teams, and improving the wellness of high performing professionals (athletes and executives).
DBT stands for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. DBT is a treatment approach that uses 4 main components which are distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. Each week, the group will speak about one of the four components and learn skills on how to use these techniques in their day to day life. DBT is rooted in finding the balance between acceptance and change. We can accept and validate our feelings with the goal of changing how we react, process, and behave.

Depression, anxiety and problems in relationships often cause deep anguish and pain - just getting by each day is tough. We often struggle alone believing things will never get better. Friends and family urge us to just get over it, but sometimes that makes it feel worse. You need someone to talk to. In the safety and privacy of our offices, you will have your therapist's unwavering attention, devoted to helping you untangle the mess that exists in your life. Together, we will help you change what you thought was unchangeable but also accept what you thought was unacceptable.

What? How? Navigating college can be difficult but should be a time of growth and self-exploration. For many students with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Order) or ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) it can be an overwhelming process. Having a community or group to rely on helps lessen the load and takes the pressure off from constant reminders from parents or others, as well as the frustration of applying tips from neuro-typical individuals who mean well but often have trouble understanding what it is like to be neuro-divergent. Come join our small group community. Groups limited to 8-10 people.
