Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well-researched approach that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT lends itself exceptionally well to learning in a group context. Its straightforward and easily understandable concepts allows group members to easily absorb the skills, as well as to support each other through direct group discussions. Structured and exploratory psychoeducation encourages reflection, helping clients to adopt and integrate what they’ve learned into their daily lives. This combination of resources can significantly support a positive therapeutic journey and promote lasting change.

Depression, anxiety and problems in relationships often cause deep anguish and pain - just getting by each day is tough. We often struggle alone believing things will never get better. Friends and family urge us to just get over it, but sometimes that makes it feel worse. You need someone to talk to. In the safety and privacy of our offices, you will have your therapist's unwavering attention, devoted to helping you untangle the mess that exists in your life. Together, we will help you change what you thought was unchangeable but also accept what you thought was unacceptable.

DBT stands for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. DBT is a structured treatment approach that uses 4 main components which are distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT is rooted in finding the balance between acceptance and change. We can accept and validate our feelings with the goal of changing how we react, process, and behave. Each week, the group will speak about one of the four components and learn skills on how to use these techniques in their day to day life. Light homework will also be assigned to practice learned skills between sessions.

What? How? Navigating college can be difficult but should be a time of growth and self-exploration. For many students with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Order) or ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) it can be an overwhelming process. Having a community or group to rely on helps lessen the load and takes the pressure off from constant reminders from parents or others, as well as the frustration of applying tips from neuro-typical individuals who mean well but often have trouble understanding what it is like to be neuro-divergent. Come join our small group community. Groups limited to 8-10 people.

I enjoy working with people who are invested in doing that deeper work and want to gain insight into their life story, address past hurts and move forward with lasting healing. I believe that in addition to biology, we are each a product of our environment, social context, relationships, and life experiences. Therapy is an opportunity to explore these experiences, their impact on us, and recognize the pieces of life that are within our control. Through therapy, I support my clients in re-gaining a sense of agency over their lives and relationships, and ultimately increasing feelings of self-worth, meaning, and happiness.

I specialize in working with older adults and their caregivers (particularly with a dementia diagnosis), I also have a wealth of experience in working with individuals challenged with such issues as depression, anxiety, bereavement, sexual abuse, retirement, life transitions and end of life issues.
Counseling is a very difficult thing to do, so I commend you for taking this first step to research therapists in your area. I believe that the most important factor for counseling to be successful is the connection that you feel with your therapist. Trust is important for change to occur. Typically when you are struggling in any area of your life, it is because trust was violated at some level, whether you are aware of it or not.
