A 5-week workshop for parents navigating the messy middle of adulting. If your 18–25 year old is technically grown but still at home, avoiding next steps, emotionally reactive, overwhelmed, or unsure how to launch, this is for you. We’ll focus on practical skills that reduce conflict while supporting independence. Topics include building real-world readiness, managing emotional escalation, interrupting the anxiety–avoidance cycle, validating without enabling, creating independence, and aligning goals between parent and young adult. Designed for families in the transition from “almost adult” to stepping into life with confidence, accountability, and developmentally appropriate autonomy.

Whether it's your first baby or your fifth - parenting is HARD! This group is a safe space to explore prenatal & postpartum depression and anxiety, sleepless nights, attachment, fears of "doing it wrong," being a working or stay-at-home parent, relationship changes, and "all the things" that happen in that first year. Dads are welcome too! This is a breastfeeding-friendly space, but there is also a private area for those that need it. Childcare is not provided, but infants who are not yet crawling are welcome. (There is an adjacent room for helpers to care for them.)

I help overwhelmed parents and caregivers in neurodivergent families exhale, regroup, and remember that they are more than the crises they’re managing. Whether you are parenting a neurodivergent child, caring for a loved one with complex needs, or navigating your own late-identified neurodivergence, our work together creates space where you do not have to translate or shrink yourself to be understood. Sessions are trauma-informed, collaborative, and paced to your nervous system—not to anyone else’s expectations. You do need curiosity and a willingness to explore.

Like all relationships, the parent-child relationship isn’t immune to struggles, but when the challenges are overwhelming, extra support may be needed. If it feels like your family’s life revolves around conflict, it may be time to reset your approach to feel empowered as a parent. A trusting, respect-oriented relationship is at the core of successful discipline and repairing conflict is dependent on the attachment between guardian and child. Discipline doesn’t need to weaken the bond between your relationship with your child. Discipline isn’t finished until the parent and child are united, stronger than before.

Did you know? Research shows for 7 out of 10 couples, the stress of having children ultimately leads to divorce or remaining unhappily married, sometimes "for the sake of the children." But the conflict and discord that this causes is unhealthy for the kids! :( Bringing Baby Home is a psychoeducational workshop for couples who are pregnant or new parents. :) We know, you've got breastfeeding class, lamaze, etc. But what about the integrity of your relationship, and the emotional health of your children? BBH just might be the most important pregnancy class you take. Visit www.LewisvilleFamilyCounseling for more info.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
