Men's Issues Support Groups in Charlotte, NC

This male sex addiction recovery group is led by a therapist with specialized training in both sex addiction recovery and Christian sex therapy. The group is a combination of process (where each person is both engaged personally with the therapist and with other men in group in an affirming, safe atmosphere) and psycho-educational where the therapist will select the group's relevant areas of need to address key dynamics in the recovery process. The group also begins to focus on the deeper intimacy needs of the addicts, where healthy emotional bonding begins to take place within the group.

The typical clients I work with are like you and me, usually have successful careers, have a faith orientation, although not always, and have a tremendous longing to find, repair, or revitalize something gone wrong in themselves or in relationship with those closest. They are individuals and couples who are hurting at their core, who want more than just a quick fix, a few techniques, or merely a listening ear. They want answers, real, deep, transforming answers. They realize deep down that it is probably going to take longer than they want or expect. But, they are longing and willing to do whatever it takes to get to a better place

Therapy isn't only for when everything feels so overwhelming it's hard to even move. Therapy is also for when you know you can be stronger, calmer, more at peace.

I work with adult males, with a special focus on fathers. These clients want to examine their beliefs, behavior patterns, and relationships in order to work toward a life where their choices and values are aligned. Potential clients of mine may recognize that something is missing in their life, or they are feeling stuck. You may feel as if you know where you want to be but don't know how to get out of your own way. You might feel as if the stresses of everyday life, job, and relationships are just too much to bear. Potential clients may also value utilizing the therapeutic benefits of nature to help in their wellness journey.

"We have more help than you have problems." I have been walking with people in their life stories for many years. My office is a shame-free, safe place for my clients to be vulnerable, open, and to take a deeper look at what is hindering them from being the best version of themselves. Counseling is an important investment of a person's time and money. I listen actively and work hard for my clients in their sessions to help them experience the life change and healing they are looking for. Most of my therapy work is done in 3 day Counseling Intensives for individuals and couples. My Intensive fee is $7500 for 3 days.

Goals: Understand and process how one's past is currently showing up in relationships. Learn how to re-regulate one's nervous system in order to experience more connection, joy, and safety in relationships. Participants will learn self-regulation tools--these can be used to help participants feel grounded and supported, explore how one's backstory continues to show up in current relationships, learn how trauma stored in the body manifests in physical health symptoms, connect their physical/body sensations to the origins in their own story, and create safe connection with other participants in the group.

It’s okay to ask for what you need. This is something I need to remind myself of on a daily basis. So many of us focus intently on making sure everyone else is taken care of and we completely abandon ourselves and ignore our own needs. This leaves us feeling exhausted, depleted, and quite frankly, resentful because we think to ourselves “why isn’t anyone taking care of me?” I teach my clients what a healthy relationship looks like because if this wasn’t modeled to you at some point throughout your life, no one can expect you to know what it means.

This workshop is for those who are at any point in their recovery and are noticing the same parts of themselves keep getting triggered or they can't move past parts of their story. Or for someone who is trying to expand their life and go after big goals, but there seems to be something holding them back. The workshop will help to locate where core beliefs are stored in the body and begin to heal the trauma at the energetic level thereby helping clients to step out of fear, lack, scarcity, anxiety, and into abundance, trust, safety, and security.

Men's Issues Support Groups

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
