A weekly support group for dads who are actively sharing the load — parenting, partnering, and holding down a career at the same time. This is a space for dads to talk honestly about what they're going through and get support from other guys that have been there before. This group is open to any dad (e.g., soon-to-be, newly minted, in-the-trenches, seasoned, step, guardian, whatever) who is seeking peer support around fatherhood. Facilitated by Dr. Ian Palombo, LCMHC. Open to dads at any stage. Judgment-free.

Going through a high conflict divorce (usually code for abusive relationship and post separation abuse) can be very isolating. Especially if you're trying to take care of kids. Friends, family, and community (even mental health professionals!) are often woefully uninformed about high conflict divorce and abuse and why you may end up in court. When you're dealing with narcissistic abuse it can be brutal. Talk to others of any gender who get it in this facilitated 10 session virtual support group. Free 15 minute screening required to join. Email emergebrave@gmail.com.

Not offered at this time. Frustrated, puzzled by your kids needs and their expression of their needs? This is for you. This program changed my life. While participating in the group, you’ll learn a framework for understanding: 1. What your child really needs from you at any given moment 2. What gets in the way of your meeting those needs & how to navigate those obstacles 3. What to do when you inevitably make parenting mistakes 4. How to raise a truly secure child. The group is facilitated. The program uses video vignettes of child- parent interactions and interviews, visual diagrams.

Parenting is an amazing and challenging experience. It can feel like there are a million things to do, and time can somehow drag on and fly by at the same time. This group is designed to be a support for parents, to provide skills and opportunities to slow down, be present, and connect to your children, yourself, and your life in ways that feel meaningful to you. Learn and practice mindfulness in the context of being a parent, while having the opportunity to connect with other parents in the challenges of being present in today’s overstimulating and busy world.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
