As a therapist I work hard to understand my patients at a personal level. I provide a warm and trusting atmosphere where we can explore the difficulties in their lives. Together, through the therapeutic relationship we work on emotional problems to make deep and lasting changes. We address road blocks which may have developed over the years and seem to keep them stuck in negative patterns. Through an increased awareness of these patterns alternative choices can be made by my patients. Working together in therapy my patients are increasingly able to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives.
There is an on-going therapy group for women 45+ in which we work on depression and anxiety related to relationship, work/career, health, parenting and other issues on Mondays. Another group for women in their twenties and early thirties meets on Wednesdays from 5:00-7 pm. We use Pia Mellody's PIT model for healing from trauma that impacts our daily lives.

Life can be incredibly difficult. Even though you may look like you've got it all together, you feel like nobody sees the real you, the person that you want to be. You can't quite put your finger on it, but life just isn't as satisfying as you know it could be. Or maybe you’ve been bogged down by circumstances that keep you from moving forward. You haven’t been able to identify what you want your life to be all about. It isn’t easy to live a life that feels unrealized.

Parenting is HARD. Children are an emotional rollercoaster and it is a new challenge every day trying to figure out how to be "good enough" for them. Every step brings a continued feeling of not knowing. For many families, this can result parents in feeling down, anxious, exhausted, or irritable. Guilt can fall onto us because all these emotions are put on our children and partners. It can be lonely to feel this way about the joyous world of being a parent.

Dream Group meets to discuss dreams presented by participants. Group members possess interest in working with dreams and experience with Jungian studies.Three or four dreams are presented in each session followed by comments on associations of others, in the style of non-judgmental amplification. Discussion of impersonal symbolic associations are added. I make references to the thought of Jung and explain relevant passages in the writings of C. G. Jung. The group remains fixed and includes no more than seven individuals.

I do analytic work in accord with training of the C. G. Jung Institut, Zurich. There is special attention to dreams, creativity, and attention to the unconscious. Depth psychology takes time, and people work diligently. In the process the whole personality is engaged. Jungian psychology is forward looking and may elucidate the way through difficult transition. I work for a reduced fee, in lieu of insurance payment. This is an opportunity to do Jungian Analysis at an affordable cost. I appreciate work with individuals that have done therapy, gained psychological understanding, and would like to go futher into depth psychology.

Suffering from anxiety is exhausting. The what if'ing is constant and you know these thoughts aren't rational...but they feel so real. You find yourself often distracted because of worried thinking. You try everything to find relief (even therapy), but nothing seems to help. You avoid anxiety triggers, and this only seems to have made your world small. You wish you could wake up tomorrow with skills that work to stop the noise in your head so you can be confident to handle what life throws at you, be present with your loved ones, and stay focused at work.

Positive Discipline is based on the belief that all human beings have the basic need to belong and feel significant and that all behavior has a purpose and function. This way of parenting is very different than the typical thoughts on parenting and discipline. It is empowering for both the parent and the child. It treats the child and the parent respectfully and with dignity. The concepts and tools are simple, but it is not EASY. And it is worth the effort!

Being adopted has given me a unique passion for working with anyone from uncommon family backgrounds and environments, which led me to MFT. I understand how much impact the family can have on an individual and their outlook on life, which is why I feel so strongly about bringing that to my work with couples and individuals, as well as understanding the history of the families that I work with. What I love most about being an MFT is being able to work with unique stories and perspectives, as well as helping to bring these perspectives together in relationship and understanding.

Unleash your inner mermaid. Like a mermaid, you were born wondrous and whole, with awe-inspiring potential. Perhaps, like her, trauma hides your power, voice, and sense of magic; tries to cut you off from true self, body, community, and nature’s rhythms; tells oppressive stories that serve to keep you “in your place,” lost, lonely, ashamed, fearful, unfulfilled, or hating your body. The mermaid reclaims her birthright and returns to her community– stronger and more magnificent than ever. You, too, can lay that colonizing fear “am I enough?” in its watery grave, re-discover your voice, step into your wild power, and trust yourself.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in Edina?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
