This virtual group teaches members the 5 skills modules of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (Emotion Regulation Skills, Distress Tolerance Skills, Mindfulness Skills, Middle Path Skills, and Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills). Through a combination of teaching, demonstrating, and member participation, clients learn the skills of DBT and practice them in weekly homework assignments.

I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker specializing in DBT and trauma. The clients that I work with tend to have difficulty with coping with emotions and get overwhelmed easily. They may have a hard time navigating relationships and experience suicidality, self harm, disordered eating, or substance misuse. They may find it hard to ask for help or have trouble with knowing what their needs are and would benefit from intentional therapeutic work.
If this sounds like your experience I would love to meet you to see if I am a good fit for your goals!

I specialize in helping individuals manage and overcome various forms of anxiety related to life transitions and long-standing struggles.
Life often places heavy demands on us, and our past experiences can make it even more challenging to manage. Thoughts and feelings can become overwhelming—making it hard to breathe, find motivation, or cope with past wounds, present stressors, or future uncertainties. They can keep you up at night or keep you stuck in a cycle that feels impossible to break. It’s not easy, but you’ve already taken the most important step, and it would be my privilege to help you navigate the next. We’ll start by developing concrete strategies to manage your current symptoms, then gradually explore the underlying causes of these thoughts and feelings.

It’s a MYTH that professionals, serving the emotional health needs of others have their own all sewn up. Although, in fact, most are skilled and effective, like all human beings we are a work in progress. Firstly there are the occupational hazards of fatigue, unreal expectations, and living with uncertain results. When these challenges exist, however, over a layer of pre-existing personal/interpersonal challenge the toll is multiplied. I have led dynamically oriented relational process groups for members of the helping professions for 20 years and I have found it effective for discovery, deepening connections, increased self esteem, repair and rejuvenation.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
