Welcome! Psychotherapy is a collaborative journey, and I aim to approach it with humility and compassion. My clients come from a wide range of backgrounds, and many of them have experience in academia, medicine, or the arts. An ideal client is someone seeking to make sense of what they value and how to live in accord with their values, and who finds it helpful to approach these questions from a reflective and philosophical perspective.

Difficult experiences are a sacred time for transformation. The path toward healing requires us to express and release pain not only through words but also through the body. Each yoga therapy class features an introduction to set an intention to inspire thoughtful flows. In addition to group discussions, asanas, and meditation, restorative classes are used to renew power. Healthy use of anger and sadness are fuel for healing to create powerful transformation and reconnect with your joy and grace. Clear away the hurt to embrace clarity, peace, freedom, and love . “The lotus grows in the muck.” ?

Evidence-based approach combining therapeutic music and meditation to reduce anxiety and depression. Research shows that music enhances emotional regulation, deepens relaxation, and supports mindfulness, promoting long-term stress relief. Basel, a professional musician trained in Arabic Maqam healing, guides participants through Maqam (quarter-tone system) Taqaseem (improvised music), creating a reflective, calming experience. Modal music like Maqam lowers cortisol levels and improves emotional well-being. This approach offers an engaging alternative for those struggling with traditional meditation by providing a soothing auditory focus. Email us to join the next sequence and begin your journey toward healing and emotional balance.

March 11th- April 15th, 2020. Integrating ancient wisdom and current mental health modalities, we offer teachings and deep experiential practices that direct you to the path of living in authentic alignment. We are dedicated to what it really means to heal, and we will direct you toward empowered whole-self integration. We respect the wisdom of old conditioning and seek to understand its gifts to then create new patterns that align with conscious self-expression. Through a fusion of intellect and intuition, we teach participants to operate with their whole selves rather than from limiting beliefs and self-defeating patterns.

Who are you really? This is a question I ask my clients. I have been a psychotherapist and consultant for over 30 years. I draw on my innate intuitive abilities as well as my traditional clinical training to bring healing and transformation to my clients. My family systems background allows me to see the individual as a multifaceted system. What we perceive as a “problem” often reflects how we have adapted to the stress and trauma that we may have endured. Our perceived problems, such as addiction to substances, and other self- defeating patterns become encoded within our whole system, and ultimately distort our true essence.

People often ask me, "What is the purpose of therapy?" I believe there are a few answers to that question. First, you come to therapy to defrost grief, unexpressed rage and other negative feelings, e.g. traumas, losses, betrayals. You also learn to re-parent yourself. Second, you come to have a better transition in your work or love life, or to improve your performance and personal relations. Finally, you get to share your dreams and goals in a safe environment, with no judgment, and to produce amazing action plans to manifest your best life ever.

The loss could be lost love, a pet, friend, sibling, job, relationship...Regardless, when any deep bond is severed, the sadness and broken heart are profound. But loss and grief are not mental health issues. And while there are meds for depression, there is no pill for a broken heart. These are spiritual and emotional matters. Things of the heart and soul. The Grief Journey is complex and demanding. Please let me know if I can help

Accepting new clients! There are also still seats in the Monday 6:30PM trauma recovery group. Please feel free to reach out for a consult to join the waitlist or a group! I work with clients who are feeling that they are ready to get well, even if they do not know what that looks like, or even if its possible. I aim to help those who are tired of being told they need to wait to "deal with trauma". Frequently my clients tell me they have figured out how to get through the day, but they are not living their best life.

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
