Divorce Support Groups in Atlanta, GA

THIS GROUP IS FULL UNTIL FEBRUARY 2025. This group provides a supportive space for women who are recently out of a long-term marriage or relationship that was unfulfilling, limiting, or wounding. In this group we will practice honoring the pain as a way of releasing its hold on us. We will process the difficult relational dynamics we experienced and explore the limiting narratives we have believed about ourselves. We will practice finding and using our voices to help each other reclaim who we are and empower each other to boldly build the lives we want.

I have expertise in supporting those navigating the complexity of divorce, acute and chronic health conditions, and with non-traditional relationship styles.
There’s more to life than just working and caring for others. You struggled to build this life for yourself, but now there’s little joy in it. You feel disconnected, alone. You yearn to do more than just survive. You want to explore new parts of yourself, deepen your relationships, and find new energy for life. How can you get there when right now your plate is so full you’re barely making it through the day? Things can get better. I will walk with you through this time of awakening and help you refocus on your own needs as you journey toward the life you want. A life full of authenticity and connection.

Perhaps you’re a newly committed couple seeking a strong start. Or you’re in a longtime relationship that’s going through a rough patch. When we partner with another person, we bring together two different sets of values, beliefs and world views. Over time these differences, often combined with poor communication, can lead to power struggles, conflict and even pain. It doesn’t have to be this way. At The Couples College, we have created an easy, intimate, even fun learning experience based on proven research and techniques. Our goal is to teach you new skills to manage any situation, no matter how difficult.

Some days, it feels like there is a never-ending storm cloud hanging over you. No matter how hard you try, you can’t shake overwhelming emotions. One moment, you’re on top of the world, and the next you’re plunged into deep despair without any reason. It’s exhausting to feel like something terrible is always about to happen. Even the smallest setback triggers a cascade of negative thoughts that feel inescapable. The voices in your head are constant and upsetting. You feel helpless, exhausted, and misunderstood—even by your family and loved ones.

Divorce Support Groups

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
