I've been working with stressed out, burned out, overworked, anxious and depressed Washingtonians for over 30 years and call me crazy but I still love the work. It's such a privilege to work with an amazing diversity of smart interesting people! While I have been trained in a variety of different therapeutic modalities I've learned the most from my clients. About half of my caseload is working with couples primarily using the Imago relationship therapy approach. The rest of my client load is working with individual adults and relationship groups for men. Men really flourish in these relationship groups.
People who might benefit from this group include gay, bisexual or heterosexual men who: feel out of control involving partnered or solo sex; have symptoms involving consensual sexual urges, thoughts or behaviors; feel motivated to improve their sexual health; experience sexual symptoms related to a mental health or substance use disorders; have experienced negative consequences from their sexual behavior, such as relationship conflicts, STI's, unintended pregnancies and financial, legal or occupational problems; Prospective members must complete an assessment prior to joining. This group is based on the treatment protocol published in Treating Out Control Sexual Behavior - Rethinking Sex Addiction.

How do you know if your sexual behavior is out of control? It's a subjective question that many men unfortunately wait until relationship, occupational or medical consequences accumulate before considering. I believe the most important person to evaluate concerns with regulating sexual behavior is the man experiencing the dilemma. I start with two basic questions: "What is your conflict with your sexual behavior?" and "What is your vision for your sexual health?" Since 2001, I have provided a safe, informed and confidential space for sexual health conversations with heterosexual, gay and bisexual men.
Serving the gay community is central to my practice. I offer ongoing, HIPPA-compliant virtual/in-person hybrid psychotherapy groups for gay men at the following times: Tuesdays 11:30-12:45pm (co-facilitated with Richard Elion, M.D.) and 5:30pm-6:45pm (co-facilitated with Sean LeSane, L.I.C.S.W.); Wednesdays 8:15am-9:30am (co-fasciliated with Richard Elion, M.D.); Wednesdays 5:30-6:45pm and 7:00-8:15pm (both co-facilitated with Matthew Weissman, Ph. D.). The first session of the month is in person, while we meet virtually thereafter.

The time is right to take action and start therapy, begin to relieve your pain and transform your life. Most of us can’t do it alone. I am here to help you navigate life’s twists and turns, find lasting change and thrive. Together, we will work to resolve day-to-day problems and dive deeper into larger issues: anxiety, depression, isolation, family crises, complicated relationships, grief, lose, abuse and trauma. My clients come from around the world and different walks of life: straight, adult women and men; members of the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities; interracial couples; and adoptive parents.
Barbershops often serve as a place where men of color can get a haircut and have “talk therapy” at the same time. It might be easier to discuss personal matters in a barber’s chair than a therapist’s couch. However, if you are looking for a safe, professional, and therapeutic environment, GPS’s Men of Color Psychotherapy Group might be for you. The purpose of the Men of Color Psychotherapy Group is to provide a safe, intense, and personal experience to further explore and clarify concerns that are important to their unique experiences. The format includes a combination of psychotherapy and psycho-education.
