DBT – Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, is an offshoot, a specific type of CBT. DBT primarily focuses on changing specific thought traps resulting in instilling or reinforcing unwanted intense emotional experiences. DBT is broken up into four chapters which is where will focus our time: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Groups will focus on theory, peer processing, application of skills, and a safe space to begin to practice of these skills. There is evidence supporting DBT interventions for: depression, anxiety, personality disorders, traumatic stress, substance abuse, transitional adjustment, and adolescent mental health.
