DBT Multifamily Group provides adolescents and their parents/caregivers an opportunity to learn DBT skills for emotion regulation, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and balanced thinking and acting in a safe group setting. In Multifamily group parents/caregivers learn skills side by side with their adolescents. The group provides a supportive setting to improve interactions and enhance closeness. Through skill teaching, coping models, motivation, and hope participants tend to gain practice and fluency in skill use. Combined with learning new coping skills we also play games to reinforce using skills to effectively cope with tough emotions and ineffective behaviors.
