Having a sibling with autism has a number of affects on children. Research shows that many children feel anxiety about how to interact with their brother or sister and may experience feelings of loss, rejection, resentment, sadness, or frustration at times. Siblings of children with special needs may also develop a strong sense of loyalty, pride, compassion, and responsibility. This group will support children with a sibling with autism by providing a format to share feelings and learn from others going through similar experiences and to assist children in building new, healthier stress-reducing behaviors.
