Men's Issues Support Groups in Louisville, CO

Research suggests that those who struggle with sexual integrity issues have greater treatment outcomes when group therapy is integrated as an adjunct to individual therapy and 12-step work. Group work is a crucial element to recovery that allows for deep relational connection between group members. Addicts have often times been traumatized during childhood years and group interventions provide a safe and supportive environment to process trauma. This group will be limited to 8 participants (men only) and will be first come first serve. Those interested in learning more about this group can simply call or email me for details.

Starting July 9th, Brother Roots is a men's group related to healthy expressions of emotions. As men, we are often mistakenly taught to hide our vulnerably emotions. As such, Brother Roots provides a safe and brave space in which we can accept, express, and offer our whole emotional selves. For it is in our vulnerability that our authenticity lies. In the spirit of authentic relating, I will incorporate creative expression in the form of singing, poetry, and other art, and I will welcome other members in the group to do the same in whatever way speaks to your heart.

Nice guys show up with poor boundaries and don't ask for what they want. They're usually afraid to rock the boat by speaking up. As a result, their needs don't get met. They don't get what they want; whether it's a loving relationship, sex, or self-esteem. Consequently, they often feel angry, resentful, and frustrated. Taking back your power, learning to speak up, and making healthy boundaries can be hard, but it doesn't have to be. Join a group of men overcoming with the same difficulty. In person and over Zoom.

Begins 7/9: An open, donation-based group. Come as you are and give your presence. Men have a unique challenge in this country at this time. We have been given so much and it has made us emotionally weak. At the same time, we receive resentment from gender identity groups who have not materially benefited from patriarchy like us. We need to feel our pain. We need to acknowledge and own our shortcomings and ignorance. We need to ask for support. And we need to find our true backbone in the integrity of our Hearts.

Let's do Midlife Well! This support group is appropriate for all "middle agers" (loosely 35-65yo) who are experiencing the challenges of this active, emotional, at times tumultuous period of life. Middle adulthood is a time when we question our choices, re-evaluate relationships and may start to lose connection, drive and purpose. What's it all for? What's the point? What am I doing with my life? How do I want to live now? Group members will stay together for 8 weeks to build in support, community and connection.

Men’s group - We look at a range of issues that include anything that can be seen as a negative habit (such as drinking, drugs, porn and even “buy it now”). We look at our relationship with our family, marriages, kids, jobs, our lives. We seek to find common solutions to our common problems. Do you know how to be assertive without being aggressive? Are you trying to get or stay sober? We usually leave the group feeling like we’ve gained a new life skill. Please have a sense of humor about life and be honest about yourself.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
