I work with adults suffering symptoms of PTSD, veterans like myself (Marine Corps) while specializing in treating non-offending male survivors of childhood sexual abuse, men who have experienced sexual assault and/or Military Sexual Trauma (MST).
I have a heart for people who've suffered trauma, struggled in life, and who may feel like they're broken or damaged, thinking no one understands, or worse, that nobody cares. If that’s you, I’d like to help you on a path to healing.
Few behaviors can be as potentially devastating to a young person's future as sexual offending. The ramifications carry long lasting negative consequences. For youth and young adults in this situation, STAR Guides delivers the most impactful, life-changing therapeutic experience available for sexual behavior problems. STAR guides provides a comprehensive assessment and treatment for youth and young adults who have committed or been accused of sexual offending behaviors in a remote wilderness venue, setting it apart from other more traditional forms of treatment.

Few challenges that families face today, can be as heart breaking as sexual abuse within a family.
STAR Guides is an outdoor therapeutic program designed for youth and young adults who are struggling with problematic sexual behavior. STAR Guides provides families with navigation through these challenges. Regardless of past behaviors, we believe that all youth can learn to achieve healthy sexuality. Research suggests that for many, sexual problematic behavior first begins during the adolescent years. STAR Guides helps youth to deal with these problems while they are still young. Many youth in today's modern world find themselves lost and in need of direction as they attempt to navigate the thick darkness that accompanies sexual behavior problems. Just as the ancient peoples of the world, they are in need of STAR Guides. Based in beautiful St. George, Utah the program provides teens and young adults with a high impact, life-changing therapeutic wilderness experience in the heart of the majestic red rock of the high desert of Southern Utah. STAR Guides is the ideal intervention for individuals needing to learn to manage problematic sexual behaviors that they have been unable to manage previously.

I have been working with at-risk youth since 2004. While earning my BA in Psychology at UCCS, I worked in a residential treatment facility, learning the ropes of being a front line staff. While earning my MA in Clinical Psychology, also at UCCS, I worked with middle school youth at a local school. Following graduation, I returned to residential as a therapist working almost exclusively with sexually abusive youth. I have presented research on this topic and many others across the country and in Canada, and have earned my Full Operating Treatment Provider from the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB).
This support group is a safe, compassionate, and confidential space designed for adult survivors of childhood incest. This group aims to provide a nurturing and compassionate environment where you can share your story, connect with others who have had similar experiences, and find comfort in knowing you are not alone. Through mutual support and guided discussions, we will explore paths to healing, resilience, and empowerment. Together, we will navigate the complexities of our past, celebrate our strengths, and build a future grounded in self-love and acceptance. Interested? How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
