I support and empower clients struggling with a history of trauma; grief/ loss; perinatal; chronic illness/pain; those experiencing high anxiety; clients that are highly sensitive and empathic; or those who are simply feeling the weight of life stressors and transitions.
My approach to mental and behavioral health is foundationally Person-Centered. I integrate evidence-based theories that are trauma informed, attachment based, and solution focused: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and (EMDR)

I am experienced in facilitating groups concerning existential life issues including struggles in life, meaning, purpose, and death and loss.
I am trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to enhance his effectiveness in the field of trauma recovery. I strongly feels that there is a special healing found through implementing EMDR, and has seen brokenness be restored, fear turned to bravery, and depression turned to hope.

I work with a variety of issues in therapy, including emotional struggles, trauma grief and loss, life transitions, relational problems, depression, and anxiety.
The relationship between client and therapist is essential to successful therapy. I seek to establish an empathetic, trusting relationship with clients, which provides the context for a deeper understanding of oneself and the difficulties bringing them to therapy. From this relational foundation, I work collaboratively with clients to find solutions to their problems.

I greatly enjoy working with clients who are open to creating or processing change in their lives. That may look like addressing anxiety or depression, grieving a loved one or a way of life, postpartum depression, understanding how trauma has impacted one's life, relationship difficulties, welcoming a baby, struggling with food and body image, redefining self-worth, mentally managing chronic pain or illness, family struggles, life transitions, gender identity, sexuality issues, enhancing communication skills - ultimately, finding healing and meaning in your life.

At the Center for Humanistic and Interpersonal Psychotherapy, we believe that an essential starting point is getting to know the individual, their strengths and challenges, their values, and what they want from therapy. Each individual is different; therefore, each therapy experience needs to be designed specifically for the person entering therapy. Individuals enter psychotherapy and counseling for varied reasons, including personal growth, relationship problems, life transitions, traumatic experiences, environmental stressors and challenges, depression, anxiety, and more. Individuals entering therapy also seek out diverse outcomes. Through getting to know the individual client, our therapists help clients find solutions to the challenges that bring them to therapy. We tailor our psychotherapy approach to each individual, their specific needs, and their desired outcome.

In 8-weekly sessions we explore the common challenges of preparing for retirement that get left out in all the talks out there about financial planning. Things like where we will find meaning, how we handle all the free time we have and the realities of the physical changes in our aging bodies. At the end you will have built a wellness plan that will lead to a rewarding 4th quarter of life!

Maybe a substance or behavior addiction has you feeling trapped? This can produce anxiety and shame. Then we isolate, leading to depression. All human behavior is changeable once we learn what purpose it's serving and get to the root causes. If that's untreated trauma, then IFS and EMDR can be transformative in leading to lasting healing and relapse prevention. Even if substances or other addictions have not been your struggle, perhaps relationships have been fraught. Regardless, solid therapy can help get you unstuck and moving toward greater wellness in all areas of your life regardless of your age.

Grief Support Groups

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
