Whatever your goals might be, being in therapy forever is likely not one of them! As an experienced therapist, with a directive and compassionate style, we will work together so that you can get the most out of your time in therapy. I view my clients as individuals and not a number or a diagnosis, each with a unique set of circumstances and challenges. Using an evidence based foundation, I tailor my approach to these specific needs and identities. I enjoy working with individuals who are ready to move past trauma, grief, mood disorders or relationship issues in a collaborative and pragmatic process.

If you enjoy animals, nature or people, you already have a powerful foundation to create stability and momentum in your life. What you might struggle with isn't a label. It's an experience. Start where you're at, and explore it with somebody who will start there with you. Need change or just greater balance? Want more out of life? On a journey, but somehow lost? Feeling stuck, apathetic, burnt out or anxious is not uncommon! However, the tools and how to use them are not always obvious. Animal assisted, experiential, mindfulness and nature-based therapies are most clients' favorite tools.

You are NOT the only dad to feel all or any of those things & you do not have to be alone. Come join this Dad's Community Group!

This is a time for exploration, of how we've been shaped by our relationship with our fathers, good, bad, present, or even non-existent. For both men and women, whether parents or never having been a parent. Fathering has many ways of impacting us, both obvious and subtle. The objective is to increase our awareness of what fathers have meant for us, how we've been disappointed, and how to heal, forgive if warranted, and grow. This summer class has already completed, reach out for info on future classes. "Group Specialties" go well beyond the three options listed below.

A lot of people come to therapy with questions, like Why isn’t my life working? Why do I feel so sad? How do I get unstuck? As our world is changing, so it demands us to evolve. Whether we are trying to overcome or let go of an old story, learn new boundaries, find love, or find our true path, “therapy,” a wide umbrella with many ways of untangling our confusions and sorrows, has evolved too. We have largely grown beyond a model of dis-ease into one of seeking wholeness, love, fulfillment, even self-love. With healing, we start to recognize yet another call: we may yearn to live a more meaningful life. But how do we get there?

It’s nice to find someone you feel like you can be yourself around. I bring with me a sense of humor, warmth and authenticity that fosters connection and trust, especially important for those who are skeptical, or unsure about seeking help. Through this trusting relationship, my clients are better able to access self-compassion and more awareness of patterns that have kept them from achieving contentment, freedom and joy. My clients often struggle with anxiety, depression, shame, anger, low self-esteem, difficulty forming or maintaining relationships, and their relationship with drugs and alcohol.

This is a mixed gender interpersonal process group for people who want to build accountability and mutual support around issues related to recovery from addiction, relationships, and other issues. In addition to addressing the issues that brought you to seek help in the first place, you will have opportunities to learn about yourself through participating in the group. My attention will be both on the presenting issues and what is happening in the group itself. I usually meet with prospective group members 2-3 times individually before they start in a group.

Hello. I am a person-centered therapist. I specialize in supporting people in long-term recovery from addiction. Phase one of treatment is focused on changing the problematic behavior(s). Phase two involves a process of self-reflection and finding ways to meet the needs that the addiction had previously been intended to address. I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist and I offer several online therapy groups. Seeing you that you are not alone in your challenges can be a powerfully healing experience. Beyond that, group members offer each other practical advice as well as ongoing emotional support.

Has someone in your life told you that drinking, or drugs are problem for you?... They're wrong! Your drinking is not the problem, it's a solution! Substances help us cope with the slings and arrows of life. Drinking is merely a symptom of something deeper with which you’re struggling. We need to get down to causes and conditions of your substance use. My name is Adam, I’m in long-term recovery from drugs and alcohol and I would like to give you something that was given to me. If you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, please call me. Let’s see if we’re a good fit for each other.

You’re feeling disillusioned or trapped and it’s showing up in a loss of motivation, increased anxiety, or outbursts of anger. You've been hurt by a partner, a family member, or maybe even your faith community, and the wound won't heal. You're trying to press on, but the usual ways of coping are no longer serving you well. You're starting to see that your patterns may even be harming you or pushing people away, which only contributes to a feeling of isolation. Sometimes you're overwhelmed with shame or regret. At least part of you wants to get better and experience happiness again, even if another part of you wants to give up.

Men's Issues Support Groups

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
