As a clinical Art Therapist, I use art making as an outlet for non-verbal emotional expression.
Imagine what your life could look like if you felt more in control, self-assured, energetic and hopeful about the future. Your conflicts and challenges don't need to define you, consume you, or prevent you from being able to enjoy the life or relationships you desire. Imagine feeling wonderful just as you are. What if you had fulfilling, healthy relationships (with your spouse/partner, family, friends, colleagues or children), despite anxiety, changing roles or circumstances, traumatic experiences, addiction or abuse, grief, loss, or guilty feelings? Let me help you heal old wounds and create a life you love living.

I incorporate art therapy for both creatively-inclined and artistically-inexperienced individuals in addition to mindfulness-based practices, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and psychodynamic approaches to help clients rediscover their potential, increase insight into problematic patterns, gain access to supportive resources, and establish long-lasting habits that promote self awareness and growth.
I enjoy working interpersonally through the group process. Group can be healing and affirming and is a highly effective form of treatment that provides a space for meaningful contact with others in order to address personal, relational, and societal issues. I also offer a training/consultation group for those seeking certification as art therapists (ATR).

Over the last 20 years of working with children. I have found in families, Mothers need the most support. Women need a place to talk to other women, about their daily struggles. Many feelings exist throughout the day managing kids, partners, domestic chores, and careers. Our thoughts can be overwhelming, and we struggle to calm our minds. The mother's support group meets once a week. Discussions will include tips on improving communication, managing behaviors, anxiety, social skills, and building self-esteem. ? Mothers will feel the support from other group members and enjoy time in a peaceful garden. Experience Art and Sand tray Therapy.

You feel like you never fully belonging anywhere, caught between worlds… it affects your sense of self, relationships, and ability to move forward. This "in-betweenness" can feel isolating, whether from unresolved grief, trauma, or identity questions others can't see. Navigating these complex experiences, you desire healing but find yourself stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Your emotions and creative potential feel blocked. I'm very body-centered, drawing on trauma-informed modalities adapted for Zoom, my office, or a ranch north of Burbank through equine-assisted therapy! My work aims for less thinking and more feeling, inviting the intuition of your body to lead the way. We'll use mindfulness to access the wisdom of your subconscious and heal wounded patterns at the source through gentle sensory and energetic explorations of feelings, experiences, belief systems, and relationships. The result is... letting go of results! And cultivating loving connection with yourself. If you crave holistic, experiential, artistic therapy my approach may be for you.

I predominantly work with counseling ("talk therapy") clients but have a growing number of art therapy and surf therapy clients.
Hi! I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor based in Newport Beach & Long Beach, CA. I work with adults to help them reduce anxiety and live more peaceful, fulfilling lives. I work with "people-pleasers", the stretched thin & overwhelmed, those who feel stuck and those who are students of life - looking to develop and understand themselves on a deeper level. My clients have often reached a point where they're finally ready to ask for help, often times after helping everyone else in their life for so long. They're eager to make changes and ready to accept support, encouragement & tools for living the lives they desire.

Art Therapy Support Groups

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
